real ID

who gots one?

My lic expired but it seems like a big hassle to get the real ID compared to just filling out the simple paper work in 5 min for a simple dr lic.

Here..it's called an enhanced drivers license.
It's needed for traveling to Mexico or Canada

I've had mine for almost 4 years now.

EDLs make it easier for U.S. citizens to cross the border into the United States because they include:

A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip that will signal a secure system to pull up your biographic and biometric data for the CBP officer as you approach the border inspection booth.
A Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) or barcode that the CBP officer can read electronically if RFID isn't available.

I got mine back in 2017. It wasn't that much of a hassle, I just had to bring a certified copy of my birth certificate, and I think my social security card. It wasn't that big of a deal.

I was just stuck in the DMV today, registering the new truck, and I think about 1/2 the people renewing their license ahead of me didn't get one.

The wife had more trouble. She had to bring her original marriage license, divorce decree, and our marriage license to track her name changes.

I recently got one here in NM, not that big of deal, a few extra pieces of paperwork...

Not really sure what the point is for needing it. I don't need it to vote or any ID for that matter ;) and have a passport to leave or return to the USA.

AAA for truck registration. No waiting and even in a crowded place like LA, its walk in, 5 min wait

I think eventually, we all will have to get one. What about the illegals? How will they get one.

*sighe* it's a royal pain in the balls. I asked the Floriduh DMV clerk why is this necessary when Floriduh already made us jump through the gestapo documents hoop back in the mid 2000's so Floriduh already has the information. Crickets....

Real ID whether we like it or not is happening. Count the deadline pushout as a blessing and I recommend to everyone get it done now because the various DMVs are gonna be overloaded and backed up when they stop pushing the deadline out.

I got one in 2020 during the pandemic - no issues: it's al about documentation. However, if you are a woman and have been divorced, you will need proof of the marriage or divorce so that the last name matches up with the birth certificate.

It's easier to get a passport than it is a DMV driver's license with Real ID.

You have to upload documents online for the DMV to accept them as valid and appropriate. Then you have to make photocopies of those documents and bring in the originals for your appointment (make an appointment, the DMV lady advised me). They look at rhe originals and keep the copies. Then you pay your $33 and take your picture. All done in only 1:15. And that was with an appointment.

We have that too. I like it. It's an absolute "Real Me". Harder to fake.

I got one when my license needed renewal on my last birthday. I did it the old fashioned way, made an appointment, got the three items I needed together & was done in a very short time. It's a necessity if you want to cross the international borders or fly in the near future.

Looks like I need to look for birth Cert and SSC card. The SSC card is gonna to be a btich to find. I remember seeing it once when I was a little kid, I think. Haven't seen it since.

I always thought passport was the alternative.

Illinois makes it damned near impossible while saying it will be "required".'

No appointments and limited "sessions" to get one.

My passport is my REAL id.

I was talking about just driving over for the day or a short stay. By the way, I took my original social security card because it was easy to lay my hands on it, along with a copy of it. When I was there, the lady said they wouldn't accept copies of anything, so I was glad I took the original.

We bring copies and they vverify with the originals then they keep copies?

My TX dl is a real ID. I don't think I had to do anything special to get it.

I had to make an appointment with S.S.to get a copy of my card. After that getting my real ID wasn’t too bad.

My wife and I have one each!

Our regular licenses were to expire at the end of November. So we called and made an appointment at a tag agency around the corner from the round barn in Arcadia, OK on Rt. 66 about 12 miles from our house.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672331570.JPG

We walked in, and there was no one else in line for a license. We brought our passports, a utility bill with our name and address on it, and a voter ID card. Had the photo taken, and the clerk types away for a while. She printed out a B&W 8.5x11 piece of paper with as a temporary license to use as they mail the new license to us. It arrived a couple of weeks later. Since we are both officially geezers and over age 65, the license is free, and good for the next 10 years.

Fairly painless procedure. The local Oklahoma City tag agents are overwhelmed with appointments, and busy. The rural tag agencies are just operating like normal.

Oklahoma has a private enterprise system of tag agencies. We get driver's licenses and auto tags and titles at them, and no dealing with the DMV. Most of the agencies understand competition, and have nice offices, and competent, helpful and cheery employees, the opposite of almost every state agency employee with a surely indifferent attitude.

We have NM Real ID DLs. Traveled from ABQ to PHX on Monday early afternoon (last SWA flight out of ABQ that day as SWA cancelled all other flights). Went through the TSA Pre-Check line at ABQ and they only scanned our DLs, no need to look at a SWA boarding pass. So, somehow, the Real ID DL was connected to the TSA travel system and knew we were flying that day. Almost scary...

Here in NY, we 3 options for DLs, Standard, Enhanced, and RealID.

Standard - just lets you drive, beginning May 7, 2025, it will not accepted to board a domestic flight or to enter some federal buildings. Has 'NOT FOR FEDERAL PURPOSES' on the front

Enhanced - can be used to board a domestic flight, can be used to enter U.S. at land crossings from Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries, has a U.S. flag on the front, costs an additional $30

RealID - can be used to board a domestic (within U.S.) flight, has a white star in a black circle on the front.

I work at a secure government facility and know that delivery drivers, vendors, etc. are not permitted access without certain credentials. It seems a whole lot easier to carry one thing instead of multiple items.

My passport is a RealID but I dont want to carry it with me just for that purpose.
