i do the meta too mid day like a "meal". dinner is my only significant meal of the day as well.

I so want a hip replacement. Have you taken steroid shots? I know it's not spot on topic but I see the hip specialist first time Tuesday.

My BMI is like yours. I got it down to 33 earlier this year but most is back. I can talk a lot on dieting but the most important thing is to talk less and diet more. Just saying I know how to diet way better than I diet.

My hip issues are a family tradition. my sister, uncle and pops have had both of theirs replaced so I was expecting it at some point. we have a deal called femoral impingement which means the ball grows out of round and wears the cartilage till you are bone on bone.

i did have a cortisone shot in late Oct. but was told at the time my joint was so bad it may only last 6 to 8 weeks, and all be it's started to bother me again in the last week or so. still not as bad as before the shot. be advised that a surgery cannot be performed for a minimum of 3 months after the shot. i went with it because i knew with the holidays all the pre-approval through insurance and scheduling would be at least that long. im have mine done mid February.

Paul, Seahawk here has had one done and is having another one soon. he provided a couple links and some info that was very helpful to me. ive got classes to attend and a clearance appointment from my primary care doc before it's all a go. good luck with your appointment tuesdee.

I found as I got older that I simply didn’t need to eat as much as I used to. I was never a breakfast eater and found that even eating a small lunch made me feel full, so long before “intermittent fasting” was a thing, I started only eating dinner.

On the weekends I’ll eat a small breakfast late morning and then dinner, but otherwise I only eat dinner.

I feel great (58 years old, 6’ 3” and currently about 205 lbs). Blood work comes back perfect every year. Blood pressure is typically 125/80. I take no medications at all.

I’ve been doing this for probably 10 years.

Thanks for the response.

I have no cartilage. Doc said he can kick the can down the road with shots and physical therapy for a few months but I need a hip. April.

I did ask him specifically about the BMI issue and he did say the cut off was 40. He added that for every pound you lose that's five pounds of joint impact removed which aids in revcovery.

it's official, at the weigh in at my primary care doc today I'm down #13 in about in 2.5 months. down to #197, still considered "obese" for my height but my PA gave me a nerdy doctor high-5 I was late on and nearly missed..

hip replacement is 12/15

Tobra 01-31-2023 10:46 PM

I used to be fast, could jump too, like 40 years ago. I have known body builders who would fast before events to look more cut. I have done that, or intermittent fasting, which has been effective for weight loss.

GDNF2ET 02-01-2023 02:03 PM

I started off not eating for 48 hours, just water, after that, you choose what 6 hours of a 24 hour day do you want to eat... I chose 3-8.... Been doing this for about 8 months.... My weight use to fluctuate from 183 - 193 and started staying in the 190's.. Now its between 178-181 steady.. I eat whatever I want in that window.. I stopped drinking sodas and caffeine a couple years ago... I'm 56, 6'1 with a slim build...

But seriously, the research is done and the jury is in: If you want to lose weight, then proteins and fats are not your enemy. Sugar and carbs are your enemy. Remove them from your diet. Get up and get out and move around. And find something else to entertain yourself other than food.

juanbenae's situation is a bit different. He is on a short timeline. On a short timeline, I think your goal cannot be much more than just weight maintenance.

Not exactly...you need carbs. Carbs are the fuel that humans use first and foremost. But you need to be smart about WHAT carbs you're eating (and there's carbs in damn near everything, by the way).

The "proper" diet for a normal healthy person should be 40/40/20--40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fats.

Tobra 02-01-2023 05:35 PM

You are talking about normal, healthy people. We are talking about fat people.

Your body is capable of performing the chemistry required on fat or protein to make it into carbs. Carbs are the only thing your brain can use. If you eat protein rather than carbs, it will moderate changes in blood sugar.

What Tobra said...

I basically wont eat anything "white" (Pasta, White bread, rice etc.).

Also stop drinking "Diet Coke" or "Coke No Sugar". If you have to drink something try a clear lemonade with a sugar substitute. Avoid any drink with coloring. I'm super paranoid about the soft drink companies because they seem to have no regard for the health of their customers. Same for the various fast food companies. All they care about is profit.

And like I always say... "It's OK to leave something on your plate".

Yeah, I've moved away from all "white" things, too. Alternative pastas have actually come a long way--both the veggie kinda and there's brown rice-based pasta now.

I drink milk or water, only. I do miss soda...

I used to "fast" semi-naturally as some others here. No breakfast, start my eating day at lunchtime (around noon), and often skip dinner. I did snack a bit too unhealthy, though. I've migrated to eating 5-6 small meals a day, keeping my body working on digesting/metabolizing pretty constantly. I feel much better and work out every night after work without feeling tired.

I made the Kessel Run in less than 13 parsecs.
