I always wonder where people store all that scheiss in the off season .

How about the fully-decorated Christmas tree in the front window?

I had a neighbor (who's now passed on, rest his soul), who kept one up year-round. I got to see it every day I walked by with my dog.

In a related note, it always makes me chuckle when I see some dried out Christmas tree on the sidewalk in front of someone's house or apartment in February or March.

Three of my neighbors must be from Denver :(.

House on the corner still has ten inflatables (that I can see & count) lit up all night, one neighbor has had hers burning non-stop day & night for almost two months, and the house across the street has at least turned them off now. They have a LOT of gaudy lights and deflated crap to take down tho'...

At least the elderly lady with a lightshow of snowflakes moving across her garage door has taken down her inflatables and stopped the nightly movie....

Serenity now..... serenity now :)

We just took our Christmas decorations down yesterday the 7th. My Wife is German and Christmas is a longer celebration than what we're used to here in the USA.

It starts with December 5th which is St Nikolaus Nacht. Kids put there shoes out and St Nick and Krampus come by and fill them with fruits and candy.

Then we have Christmas Eve and Day, with presents opened Christmas Eve.

The 12 Days Of Christmas end January 6th which is the Epiphany or Three Kings Day. That's when some people eat King Cake.

No inflatables in the front yard for us, just old school multi colored lights on the roofline of the house.

What gets me is rolling through the ghetto on a hot August day and seeing the icicle lights hanging from some houses. I mean, you had the energy to put them up, at least give a good yank and pull them down. Or wait 3 months, plug them in and hope they all light up again.

Hmmm... I knew there was a reason I held on to my old Crosman pump BB gun for so long....

Our tradition is to put up the lights (and I mean lights only, no inflatables or other nonsense) a week or so after Thanksgiving and take them down very shortly after Epiphany or Twelfth Night, typically on or about 6 January.

i think the old skool way of stringing lights on houses, candles in windows, etc. is awesome fwiw .... even when overdone :)....

But there's gotta be a limit??? .... It's like Vegas met inflatables, Mardi Gras, ate some bad acid, and spewed cheap carnival decorations all over their lawns :D....

stevej37 01-08-2023 09:20 AM

^^^ Sounds like my neighbors Halloween inflatables...lol

That wouldn't fly in my hood. It's legal to shoot neighbors lights after new years day here

I think New Years Day has traditionally been the last day here too .... all of these neighbors are relatively new :D.

Welcome to da 'hood ..... bang ;).

Diana's don't go bang tho' ..... Phhht :)

Diana's are VERY accurate and I can shoot!

To make it sporting I might just throw rocks at those inflatables :D

cstreit 01-08-2023 11:36 AM

OK so hear me out. Go get a couple of propane tanks - the smaller ones for torches.

Open them up right by the intakes on the inflatables.

...now go get a roman candle....

Fling some peanut butter at the bottom of each one and let the birds and local rodent population lick the stuff off.

Or put up a sign that says Free.

Another regret in nearly 8y in Denver/Golden is that I never got to the shock show (reference Gogar's Denver traditions)

Our display's indoors, and about now (Mrs mjohnson's bday was Saturday) most ornaments come off but the red and silver stuff stays and - tadah! Valentines tree!. On a timer, it's nice to stagger out of the bedroom at 0-dark-thirty and see a lit up tree before sunrise.

Outdoor stuff - we don't have much nearby but if we did I could imagine getting back into airguns.

A lady I knew had an aluminum tree complete with tinsel. It was all bright silver. She did change the ornaments around March to Easter Eggs. Then it came down before long. Or rather folded up. It literally took minutes to set up.

KFC911 01-16-2023 03:46 AM

Well .... they must not be from Denver after all ..... Christmas and those dozen hideous inflatables lit up all night are finally gone!

I'm expecting big inflatable bunnies by this weekend tho :D

Hmm, they're early. The Stock Show closes on the 22nd - then our (indoor) tree turns into a valentines tree.

On a timer, it's actually pretty nice to stagger into the kitchen at 0-dark-30 and see something twinkly and bright besides the soul-enriching light of the Jura firing up.

Outdoors? Oh, heck no. I actually like my neighbors... ;)

KFC911 01-16-2023 11:36 AM

^^^^ When it gets warmer I'm thinking about parading around in my front yard ... mebbe to the mailbox like I do inside!

Yer good!

It's like Vegas .... what happens indoors .... stays indoors :D!
