Dry January
Anyone else participating?
This is a first for me. I usually get home from work and have a couple glasses of wine. Sometimes more. It has not been too bad. The first couple of nights were the worst. Mainly because it was routine.

Dan, I had not planned on going dry for January, but things seem to be working out that way. I have had two glasses of wine this whole month. I admit I feel better and have some physical benefits. Like I said, didn't plan it, but what the heck. (though and old friend is visiting this weekend and she like champagne.)

Yup, on it
I am trying to lose weight and red wine is my kryptonite so I figured I’d give it a go until my anniversary on the 29th. No problem

I've been dry for almost two years now after abusing alcohol for the last 15 years. I was a high functioning alcoholic and of course I was in denial - it was just a hobby. Took inspiration from an unlikely source to make me realize. I've lost 95 pounds and couldn't be happier!

No thanks. I'll wait until Dry July and then take a day off drinking.

January has been pretty dry here, I may have to run the lawn sprinklers in the coming days. I was hoping to avoid that.
Didn’t realize no drinking in January was a thing. I haven’t had anything in a while, mainly because I don’t have any beer in the fridge and no wine, either. I do have some tequila in the freezer but it’s not really margarita season yet. |

I never liked alcohol much...or wine. But I really like the taste of a good beer. I'm afraid if I quit drinking beer I might lose 95lbs also. Then I would weigh 55 pounds.

I started the day after Christmas.
No sugar / no alcohol for 30 days. It is sort of a pain in the rear. I did the same in September. It was harder then. I consume WAY too much sugar and alcohol apparently converts to sugar in your body. So I kicked it for a month. Interesting. I do drink a glass or two of red wine every other night or so. I thought the alcohol would be tough. It really isn't. The sugar is more difficult. But, last time I did this, I thought I was happier. This time I have lost 7 pounds so far in 2.5 weeks! Not really enjoying myself but I think my body appreciates it. And what is odd? EVERYONE I speak with confesses to eating too much sugar. It is universal. |

Dry January? My bottle of Blanton's says otherwise and just picked up a nice Chateauneuf-du-Pape for some forthcoming cassoulet.

It's been a year and a half since I stopped eating sugar. No deserts, cakes, muffins or chocolate biscuits. I don't feel any different but I sure enjoy not having that sugar crash feeling after gorging on sweets then rolling off the couch onto the floor

I was just talking to a guy I've known since the 60s last night and suggested we should get together for a beer. He responded he doesn't drink anything anymore. He said since he got so old, drinnking made him feel so bad, he gave it up totally. I guess if you wait long enough, the problem takes care of itself.

![]() I'm moderate in my intake of alcohol and don't feel the need to avoid it for a month. For those of you choosing to go dry, more power to you!

My problem is I don't drink enough, I'm a pretty cheap date. One Old Fashioned, Sidecar or a generous single glass pour of cabernet or Chimay, and I'm done. Two of any of those and I'm not going anywhere.

I need a reward for making it through the day. A martini before dinner and a glass of wine with the meal and I feel like it was all worth it.
