Porsche E Fuel. Is this the ultimate solution?
These days most manufacturers are racing to create greener alternatives to there gasoline counterparts, but what about the hundreds of millions of gas powered cars that are already on our roads? They aren’t going anywhere soon and they will keep polluting if no alternative is made available to them. Porsche has been working on synthetic fuels and they call it Efuels, and Porsche claims that these fuels can make the internal combustion motor as clean as a electric vehicle.
As a petrol head and lover of combustion vehicles this is the miracle I have been waiting for. Porsches efuels are made out of CO2 and hydrogen and they are produced using only renewable energy sources. Now this magic substance will can be produced in a climate neutral manner, and it will burn in the same way as gasoline, which means you can switch from your current fuel to this efuel with out any modifications to the engine Porsches vice precident of motorsport told the U.K publication Evo "Synthetic fuel is cleaner and there is no byproduct ,and when we start full production we expect a CO2 reduction of 85 percent," He further stated "From a 'well to wheel' perspective—and you have to consider the well-to-wheel impact of all vehicles—this will be the same level of CO2 produced in the manufacture and use of an electric vehicle." Now if you don’t know what well to wheel means, wel to wheel takes everything into account, this analysis shows not only the emissions caused by burning of the fuels, but also takes into account the emissions involved in production. And as we all know electric cars aren’t very green to produce, yes they have no emissions on the road but there production is anything but green. |

I’m afraid that the political momentum of EV’s will make it an uphill battle for Porsche’s eFuel even if it is a better solution. And it appears to be just that.

No doubt because they are all in on EV.

Cool but the Germans were making synthetic fuel during WW2.

Of course Supe disagrees, goes against his party’s mandate to force us into driving what they want.

Hopefully it works out well. Not everyone wants to drive around in an oversized washing machine motor.

Sheesh, CO2 makes the planet MORE green, not less.
Calling it a pollutant is absurd / political.

My hope is the Porsche name draws enough interest from the oil industry that a partnership is formed . With the oil industry you gain instant infrastructure for distribution . That is a huge plus .
If you have a way to deliver the product the next task is being able to build enough product to meet demand. This is the big challenge in my opinion . I am hopeful that this is more than just a temporary small scale technical breakthrough . |

Until the middle east sets oil prices under 30 dollars a barrel so it becomes so intoxicatingly delicious and we can't resist it again and again and again

This and is there any inkling of what the consumer cost per gallon could be?

OK, that's a big deal. I've wondered this exact question, but never saw it printed anywhere.

I had not heard that Exxon Mobil is a partner with that facility so thanks for sharing . Hopefully that is good news and this technology can be further developed to be able to provide large volume at a affordable price .

In another article I had read, it gave some projected production volumes. But it didn't sound like there would be anything marketable (in terms of volume) until halfway through this decade. And then only certain test markets/applications. For now, they're just going to use it for things like the Porsche Cup race series.

I hope they figure out a simple and cost effective way to make it work. Right now I can buy gasoline with a ton of taxes on it for WAY less than water with just sales tax added.
So they are going to make gasoline with lots of steps, and lots of expense, and end up with a product the is "just as good as normal gasoline", but way more expensive. Good Luck!
