I have optimum online as my ISP. They suck and they suck expensively. I have FIOS available but the verbiage about switching makes my head hurt.

First, WTF does this mean..."They are not just blocking some but all websites that use DDoS-Guard which is dumb. The lack of IPv6 is also incredibly frustrating."

Would I not be able to keep my current streaming ability? Yes I'm a ISP idiot.

Is ^that^ refering to FIOS or your current ISP?

IPv6 support is not a big deal.
1 It can be rolled out at any time in the future
2 Your IPv4 can and may be tunneled/NATed through IPv6 (lots of ISPs use RFC1918/private IP addresses anyway (ie 10.x.x.x)

I assume there's a reason DDoS-Guard is blocked, but I have no idea why. I'd guess that it's got some sort of weakness/vulnerability, but I don't know.

I suppose the complaints could be valid, but it sounds like a keyboard warrior complaining to prove how much smarter they are. But that's just my cynical opinion.

Maybe we should have a new acronym. In addition to IMO and IMHO, we could have IMCO.

IPV6 is like fusion power, it's been 5 years away for 30 years. You can safely ignore it. Had to look up DDoS Guard, it's associated with sketchy websites, most likely woold not affect you at all.

I switched from Optimum to FIOS three years ago and never looked back. It's been 100% reliable (unlike Optimum). I pay $40/month for the 300/300 Mbos plan which is enough for all.my streaming needs.

If by streaming ability you mean Netflix or Hulu, or whatever. Yes, tbey will work the same.

I feel your pain. Started with Sudden Link that changed to Optimum and the service was terrible and slow. Just got our Starlink up and it is the way to go for sure. I will be cancelling Optimum next week and yanking their equipment. BTW, once I was on Starlink's list, it took 7 months, 1 week to get their service. $597 dollars and then $110 per month.

As HB says, IPv6 is a non-issue right now. You can safely ignore that.

And good info on the DDoS Guard. It sounds like a good thing that it's blocked. I guess if you want to surf sketchy sites, then it may not be, but unless you are super confident in your own cyber-security protections, then it's probably a good thing to have someone help you avoid those sites.

Not anything to worry about.

in fact my modem was crashing once a day like clockwork...until I got a hint to turn off IPv6 !
I had FIOS back when, it was pretty stable and decent (until I put a shovel thru the fiber)

Same deal. Optimum was awful. FIOS is rock solid.
I can stream 4K to one of the smart TVs wirelessly and still get good Wi-Fi performance for the entire family. Bonus is Netflix is on 838 so if you still have non-smart TVs it works there too.
