				He loved being spanked

From a pool board I visit...had to laugh at the post title, thinking of the same title used here... I just got SPANKED! I was at Clicks in Austin tonight spreading the love for Texas One Shot and my buddy went off to show some guys the game so I move across the room with my coffee. I was sitting enjoying my coffee and this little lady invites me to come to a league meeting. I told her I was joining one at Slick Willie's on Burnet Rd. Anyway she agreed to play me a game of 9-ball. So she breaks I get one shot and she runs out all the ballls. She says her name is Angie and then says we can take turns breaking. I'm like no, I'll rack. But she just keeps putting the rack together and says break. So I break and get ball. Shot again and barely miss. So she shoots and sticks me behind some balls not even trying to make a shot. I respect some defense but I rarely see it played. Of course I miss but do hit the object ball. She hides the object ball again. I miss the bank into the object ball so ball in hand. By now I know I am in trouble. So, again, she runs the table. But not just runs it, every shot is soft. Every leave is perfect. Game over quick. I told here see why you offered to split breaks, you knew this was going to happen. It was a pleasure to watch her run two more racks on me so precise I know I have to go home and learn how to play. I'm sure the World knows her but I am just a barrom hack. I will never forgot the experience. I loved it!

I'd love to see (in person) someone play pool like that. I have played pool, but I'm not good at it. I've not played much. It's something that you've got to practice, and I was usually drinking, hanging with buddies, and having a good time in my early twenties. A buddy and I were at a bar once playing a game and having some beers and nachos. These two guys come up and ask to play, no betting, just pool. Yeah, after a game or two "how about we put $20?" Nope, we're out. It was funny, these guys would make tough shots, banks, multiple banks around other balls, etc..., and then they'd miss really easy, straight shots. We were not fooled. I'm guessing these guys had been trained by Nigerians, because they were sending an email with just enough bad English and misspellings, but it was good enough that they'd probably rope in the gullible.

Yep, sounded like wannabe hustlers. A good hustler doesn't hustle with missing so obviously. All depending on the mark's skill of course, but the good hustler plays bad shape....often "accidentally" leaving himself bad shape. The guys on the pool board surmised "Angie" was probably Angel Paglia who used to play on the women's pro tour during the early 2000's... Always thought it would be fun to know a lady with that much talent...a fun scenario with a local bar wannabe hustler could be set up. There was an old Sports Illustrated story doing that...a disguised Janette Lee doing the shooting. Skilled women players love knocking male egos down a peg or two.

In college me and the peeps would venture into the town on the boundary west of East Lansing which would be Lansing and shoot some pool on a local bar table at Liquor Food downtown. The neon sign was partially burned and the only words to light up were Liquor Food so that’s what we called the place. The two guys I was with had spent the last two years assembling cars, saving for college and shooting pool all night. They were good. So everybody’s three sheets to the wind and a local dude and his crew come in wanting to shoot some stick for money. I step back of course. The night goes on, some money goes back and forth then all of a sudden some guy tells me to hold the pile of money to get it off the table. Pretty soon voices got loud. Some shoving happens and next thing I know the local is flying backwards, landing spread Eagle on the table. Out cold. Liquor Food goes silent except for the Silver Bullet Band on the juke box. We three look around and I decide the bettor part of valor was to solemnly put the pile of money back on the table and quietly walk out. None of us never did figure out what happened. But we all lived to tell about it so it was all good. | ||

Hustling is a dangerous game...pre arranged matchups for money isn't...usually pretty boring if you're looking for excitement beyond watching the game played at a high level. Often these are 9 ball or ten ball, races to 100 over three days, first two days ending at 34 games won. Everything negotiated before hand..table, cloth, pocket size, rack type, balls used, everything. And, of course, the money in the middle as it's called...winner take all. Usually mid 5 figures, though I've seen them go to 6 figures. Backers involved, and often on live pay per view stream. I'm not saying it never happens, but you really don't see top pros in any bar action like described by Crowbob. Pre arranged money matchups and tournament winnings are it. Ralf Souquet of Germany, a long time pro, won't even do money matches...only tournaments. (edit) And the money earned is getting better as of late. Fedor Gorst, the player interviewed by Joe Rogan, had a hair over $1/4 million in tournament winnings in 2022. Not big bucks, but at least a decent living wage for the top players...

We would go play a few games of Snooker then head to the local bar and play for Beers, after playing Snooker the pockets on a bar table looked like they were a mile wide, after the initial investment of a Quarter we would play and drink for free
