On the way to Kirkwood

Carson Pass on the way to Kirkwood. It was like a carnival and still dumping snow when I left. Skied until I almost dropped, left early because of the flue. The powder and glue really sapped my energy. There’s always net week.

My dad is staring at my house tonight and heading to Sierra tomorrow morning. Good thing he isn't heading up now, looks like solid traffic all the way to Tahoe right now.

SERIOUS rain and big wind here right now!

The mountain was on lightning hold until 10am this morning. There were many more skiers and boarders there this week end. I usually, arrive early and park next to the $25 preferred parking. However, had to park in a far away lot this morning. the weather was calm when I parked the truck. By the time I put my boots on, it changed to almost blizzard like conditions. So, I took the shuttle to the lift, and someone said they were on lightning hold. Sounded a bit crazy to me. Was still early and as I was about to enter the rest room in the ski shop, I heard a loud, "Crack". There were seven more and the mountain didn't open until 10am.

The back side was on wind hold and didn't open. A girl from ski patrol said the gusts were 90mph.
Anyway, I got four good runs in and decided to head home. It became very windy and figured they might close the mountain.

It sure is when it's windy and you have to ski backwards

Last week the news said snowpack is over 100% of "normal" ,whatever that is, and it's snowed a lot in the past week.

OK, so 100% normal is just the same thing as normal, right? If it was twice normal that would be 200% normal.

So why put it as 100% normal, and not just call it average?

Because on the local news here they always report the snowpack in terms of percent of normal. "The snow report just came in and we are at 65% of normal. Or, "We are at 120% of normal." The recent snows put us just over 100% of normal.

Also, it is for the date. Normal for April Fool's Day, for example.

They report it like that because that is our water for next summer.

Home early, I skied for a couple hours and was having difficulties seeing. This made me think that it might be a good time to leave. Carson Pass was slushy on the way and probably getting worse during the day. So, I left and it was a good decision.

The Pass was icy. I drove about 5mph going down towards Nevada and came upon a snow blower that probably, was going 2mph. I checked the brakes and slid sideways, feeling my abs on the brake peddle. So, it was supper icy. The snow blower also, was going down the Pass sideways.

I stopped in Woodfords for a bite to eat and found out they closed the Pass.
