I used USAA for a claim a couple of years ago when my son destroyed his car beyond repair. All I was doing was using the towing we had in our coverage. Told them where to take it as it was going to be scrapped.

The agents couldn't get it through their thick skulls that I was in Virginia and the vehicle was in Texas. After we got over that hurdle, and believe me it took some time, they couldn't understand that the place I was having the car towed to didn't have a body shop but I didn't care. (My BIL's Ford dealership where he is GM, was going to store it).

Tow company took the car to BIL's dealership but didn't leave it. Six weeks go by and USAA had no idea where the car was, I found out when the tow lot sent an invoice for storage around $900.

Hours and hours on the phone to rectify. Conversations up the food chain at USAA, promises unkept. Finally some boss got involved and fixed the problem and paid the storage fees.

When this happened I posted the thing on Next Door app for my neighborhood in Alexandria VA.
Most responses were either:
a. love USAA, been with them for decades but have never had a claim, or
b. USAA sucks, last time I had a claim it was a miserable experience, or
c. their customer service sucks.

Since insurance varies by state, there is no one size fits all, some bundle (may not be better), and some don't. You've simply got to periodically shop around imo .... as they change. Geico might be good for houses or cars in one state but not another, etc. and their underwriters dictate. I've had Geico (vehicles) and Amica for houses for a long time.... rates have skyrocketed though, and it's time for me to change. I had my parents with Amica (house) and based upon their recent move to State Farm .... I will soon change also.

Shop around guys .... houses, cars, individual and bundled .... the difference can be substantial.
