Luxury watches under a microscope

Literally. I found it a fun video...

That is cool. The geek in me loved it. I wear a cheap Casio Pro-Trek all digital watch. I can't fathom spending 10 grand for Rolex and certainly not 105 large for the other watch, and those are cheap compared to some watch brands.

Cool microscope!

I'm with you...only I prefer analog quartz. Accuracy is important to me. Amazing engineering in those luxury brands along with beautiful and detailed workmanship...but my $200 quartz watch is more accurate than any mechanical Rolex.

Still, hell of a fun video..amazing amounts of detail.

(edit) reminds me of an old tale...some NASA engineers, proud of a fine wire they made..amazingly tiny in diameter. So, bragging a bit, they sent it to a Swiss watchmaker. A few weeks later, the watchmaker sent the wire back to them. Puzzled, they looked at it under a microscope. It had 5 holes drilled through it.

Those guys were excellent. I really enjoyed that video.

I wear a mechanical Omega Seamaster I bought when I made O-6.

Twenty years in and it just makes me happy.

Another Omega wearer here (Planet Ocean). It’s been accurate to about 3 seconds/week. No complaints.

I've paid more on maintenance than the actual watch itself...

Wearing my Tag Monaco today.

Is it just me or does anyone else not even bother setting the date correctly? I can't see it so I figure why bother.

My FIL has worn cheap watches for decades but he has bought so many over the 30+ years I've known him that he could have just bought one good quartz or automatic and spent either less or the same.

If extraterrestrials ever come to Earth and want to judge or technology, that 10K watch in the video above would be a good one to had to them and show them humans ability to make precision parts.

I figure if the same extraterrestrials ever abduct me and see my 200 dollar Casio they will be unimpressed, unless they check the accuracy to GMT. It sets itself ever night at midnight so it is always pretty much dead on. Then the extraterrestrials will see the titanium in my hip and dental implants and know we have technology that is not primitive. Of course with my luck I will find out they are on Earth to harvest all the titanium and gold and will dissect me to get the parts.

I don't ever lose sleep worrying about that however.

I've got a Seamaster Crono as well. Owned for over a decade and been great.

A lange & Sohne are one of the few Ultra luxury brands where the quality seems commensurate with the huge price tag
