But that’s where metric makes more sense.

Freezing is 0, boiling is 100.

Versus freezing is 32 unless you happen yo have a solution of water, ice and ammonium chloride, in which case it’s 0.

Celsius is what water feels, Fahrenheit is what humans feel, and kelvin/rankin is what atoms feel

Saw that the other day and made me chuckle. Of course not precisely right but i get it

Ha! Just met one of our new EE interns yesterday. Stuck him with Reach/RoHS compliance work. He’s starting some of his first RF coursework this semester.

His name?? Kelvin. I told him I’d introduce him to thermal noise measurements next week and how we use those for determining G/T on our fielded antennas…

He didn’t get it..

Too many lazy / stupid people in the country for it to be successful.

Just to make life worse, let's mix in some counting in base 20 like the French.

In the 70s (?) the metric system was being taught in school as preparation for a switch, we could have done it then.

Well, sorry. But even a quick Google would have shown this:

Contrary to urban myth, NASA did use the metric system for the Apollo Moon landings. SI units were used for arguably the most critical part of the missions – the calculations that were carried out by the Lunar Module’s onboard Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) during the computer-controlled phases of the spacecraft’s descent to the surface of the Moon, and for the journey of the Ascent stage of the craft during its return to lunar orbit, where it would rendezvous with the Command and Service Module (CSM).
They open-sourced the code for the AGC (Apollo Guidance Computer); they used SI units in 1969. Because calculating in hogsheads, farthings and fortnights is hard...

I was taught metric in HS in the '70's prep to join the rest of the world. But it quickly fizzled out.

I guess it was harder thinking in tens than say ones. I remember a lot of push back.

Our school tried to teach some metric. One teacher insisted we learn about computer punch cards and she said that was the future. I tried to tell her punch cards were on the way out, and magnetic tape was the up and coming computer thing. Like most teaches she did not appreciate student input. Tape had a longer run than punch cards I suspect.
