PSA for California auto registration
Watch out for the fancy new "month +year" registration stickers..
Those geniuses at DMV made them out of self destruct material, If you so much as accidentally stick 1mm of it wrong to the plate, and try to reposition it, it will do a "Thanos" on you, total crumble into 10 pieces.. Replacements are $25 - I can see a class action lawsuit on this in no time ;-) (talking for a friend, uh, hmm... my temp plates are back on then) |

I guess it will be impossible to steal those stickers. I know many places have a problem with the theft of the sticker. Crooks peel them off a legal car and stick them on their plate.
So $25 just for a replacement sticker. I only pay $24 for the sticker and a new registration per year. My El Camino tag has been in place for 31 years, and the layers of stickers is getting thick.

Genius indeed. I attempted to register my newly acquired RV in CA just before moving, they wanted $1700 for out of state transfer after I already paid sales tax in AZ. I simply waited and registered it in ID when I got here. $49 + $10 for a state park annual pass.
My brother got his Jan gas bill in SoCal for $320. Mine in ID for the same period and MUCH colder weather $69. Here we pay $.08 per kWh for electricity. In SoCal we were averaging tiers at $.30 per kWh. See ya!

Glen, with the old stickers, you put them on then cross hatch with razor, et voila, sticker can't be stolen.
They certainly seem to be trying to chase all the taxpayers out of the state as fast as they can.

Spray it, and the plate, with a soapy water solution (a little dish soap in water), and you can reposition it as much as you want.
