I remember reading his 1976 interview in Playboy. Looking it up, I see Cameron Crowe did the interview. All I remember was the part about him being impressed by Nicolas Roeg's determination to get him to play the lead in The Man Who Fell to Earth. I need to read it again.

Bowie, Elvis and I share something in common….unfortunately not singing talent. All born on Jan 8th. Both always have been in my top 5 performers, before I knew I knew their DOBs. Thanks for this thread.

[QUOTE=Baz;11919370]With Lou Reed.........

I think I had all of Lou Reeds vinyl albums in the day. One of my favorites.
The video shows how good of a connection they had.

First album Robert Smith purchased was Ziggy Stardust.

Here's one of the Cure's biggest songs. Pictures of You. It's in it's own class as to unique sound. Maybe a little U2 seasoning but way left of rock music. Surely Bowie influenced.

I was never a huge DB fan (not exposed to his music actually), but heard him on the radio and the ChangesOneBowie tape I had was played ..... a LOT ;). Then in '83 the Let's Dance release got plenty of airtime on my college campus and I HEARD that blues guitar :). That was my intro to SRV .... and I bought Texas Flood the day it came out a few months later....

So thank you David Bowie .... you were unique and special....

Poor, born 1985-ish, child was running a meeting at the Dept of Energy HQ when Bowie died. She made the mistake of asking "so who was this David-whatever" guy? The other ten of us in the room, far older of course, will never let her recover from that...

Bowie was big on fuel conservation...

I think this video captures a unique era that I might have passed in the hallway and not really looked up. Oh, I was into music, I thought at one time it would be my life but I never figured out how.

Now that it's gone I appreciate it more than ever. People in the music industry mostly work very hard. It shows.

I've done so much listening over all the years it's ironic that I seldom listen now. But a good song will always be a good song and is welcome to be played any time. I've become very selective.
