Tempted to get a pair of these....but I have gutter screens that cover the top.
Never bothers me using a ladder to get on the roof.....getting off the roof is a challenge.

I think there are only 2 options, squid or octopus. My vote is squid.

Octopuses have 8 "equal" arms (unless they've lost one somehow, they regenerate, I believe).
Squids have 8 "equal" arms and 2 tentacles (aka, feeding arms) that are longer with pads on the end that have suckers.

On the thing that they pulled out of the sand, I saw what looked like one of the squid tentacles/feeding arms.

I'm assuming it washed up dead on the beach and was partially buried in sand by the waves.
