LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Porn star Ron Jeremy was committed to a state mental health hospital after being found incompetent to stand trial on rape and other charges, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney said on Tuesday.

Jeremy can be held for up to two years, said Greg Risling, spokesperson for the district attorney's office. A hearing on Jeremy's progress is scheduled for May 8.

The 69-year-old had been charged with 30 counts of rape and other sexual misconduct stemming from incidents in the Los Angeles area over a 23-year period. He had pleaded not guilty.

In January, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Harris ruled that Jeremy was not competent to assist in his defense, according to his attorney, Stuart Goldfarb.

Goldfarb did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

Jeremy was among the biggest names in the adult film industry, appearing in more than 2,000 movies starting in the 1970s.

The actor had been in prison since his arrest in 2020.

This case is a travesty of justice. Women come out of the woodwork 30 yrs after the fact and the man is held on $6 million bail. WTF? He could have killed every one of his accusers on camera, done it two weeks ago, and his bail would have been lower. Pretty sure there's something in the Const. about excessive bail. Not that that matters in CA. Anyone who waits years or decades to come forth with charges should not be taken seriously.

Yes, I was going to mention Weinstein. Incidentally HW has a disease called "*Fournier's Gangrene".

In my opinion, this depends on the quality of the justice system at the time.
Take some cases in the UK you may be aware of. Police would do nothing to rape gangs because they were owned "social justice". Social justice is inherently unjust in operation and any system that accepts it perpetuates injustice until its fall.
Every single one of those cases should see charges; even if decades after.
Now the original topic, its before my time and place; I don't know if this break down of past justice applies or not.

Haven't we had a whole slew of folks that have been busted for long term douchebaggery? Cosby, Weinstein, Epstein, some rapper that kept women as slaves, etc.... I suspect there are A LOT more guys than that list that get away with it for years.

I read the description in the previous post, and was pretty sure that I was NOT going to google it or need any more information than what I already have. redness, swollen, pain, gangrene, and sloughing of skin <-- that is ALL that I need to know about that.

I've not been a victim of sexual assault, but I understand that there's a lot of shame involved, and lots of folks feel like they can't say anything or won't be believed or are too ashamed. At least, that's what I've heard over and over again. And I assume that when the perpetrator is "famous" or "powerful" or whatever, that adds to it. Maybe drugs or alcohol were involved which adds a whole extra level of problems.

I suspect there are regular guys out there that are practically serial date rapists.

I knew a girl that had a fake ID and went to a club when she was in HS. She got drunk (not sure if any sort of roofie was involved as well or just alcohol) and ended up at some guys house. He had her way with her, and it was non-consensual. From what I remember she was able to call my cousin, and eventually got home. I'm pretty sure that she never filed charges.

These monsters do this stuff to a lot of people over a long period of time.
