Lost a good friend yesterday

Had to put Monte down this morning...he was foaled in '92 so going on 31. He was healthy until last night early morning. Collic but I think brought on by age and kidney failure... I've seen that before.
He was my 'parade horse' because he was so calm. I'd ride him in the 'Goldrush days' parade thru town...he acted like a parade was an everyday deal.
Once we were behind the Firetruck and they were blowing the siren...flashing lights... Monte just rode on a loose rein as if that was just right.

I grew up with horses and I've ridden a lot but was never a "rider"...that will make sense to horse people.

Monte looks like he could tell some stories we all want to hear.

Best to you.

Sorry for your loss. 31 is a long run for a horse. Not that it makes your loss easier.

I know nothing about horses. Except you and Monte look pretty good in that picture. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks gents, he had a good long go of it but he filled a big space too. All critters are good for the soul.

Aw man........I'm sorry for your loss, Reiver.

Horses are amazing creatures and I'm glad you had those 31 years together as I know Monte was as well.

Beautiful photo, BTW.....

My deepest condolences. I don't have a lot of experience with horses, but the experiences that I had brought a great appreciation for them. They are amazing animals.

So sorry for your loss, it sounds like Monte had a good friend in you as well. That's a great picture and both of you look very noble.

Thanks gents.... it is very helpful and I wanted to share a horse that was one of God's finest. He really was.

Heaven to me would be all of the critters you've ever had in their prime surrounding you with family and friends. I can only hope.

Sorry for your loss, Reiver. Agreed that the picture is striking. I have no idea about horses and how their relationships are different from typical domestic pets.

Can’t remember who said it (about dogs). If dogs don’t go to heaven, I want to go wherever they go. I guess the same can be said for horses.

Sorry for your loss.
