Today I learned that the song Always Something There to Remind Me, which I thought was by Naked Eyes, was their cover of a Bacharach-David song.

Plus he was married to Angie Dickinson, among others. He really led the high life.

I find these musical geniuses fascinating. Bacharach, (Willie) Nelson, McCartney, (Neil) Young-sort of and many others.
The melodies just seem to come to them, somehow. |
My favorites:
Don't Make Me Over I Say A Little Prayer Walk On By Arthur's Theme I'll Never Fall In Love Again What The World Needs Now Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head This Guy's In Love With You Close To You The Look Of Love That's What Friends Are For Do You Know The Way to San Jose Always Something There To Remind Me |
Marilyn McCoo and The 5th Dimension singing "One Less Bell To Answer," from Season 3 of the TV show "It Takes A Thief" starring Robert Wagner. Bones Howe and Marc Gordon are at the mixing board. The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

One thing I hadn’t fully appreciated was the mutual enhancement the lyrics and the melody has on the popularity of a song. For example, the working lyric (and title) for the Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’ was ‘Scrambled Eggs’. I can’t imagine a song about scrambled eggs ending up as one of the most-loved ballads in history.
The melody of ‘The Look of Love’, IMO, could be considered totally depressing on its own. The lyrics make it beautiful. |

I found a pic of my Dad sitting in "his chair" in our living room back when we lived in Norfolk in the 60's with our Capehart console stereo that he played so many of his albums, many of which were Herb Alpert and the TB. Dad passed away in '68, so stuff like this has a lot of sentiment for me.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676138436.jpg |
