...it's the Size of the Fight in the Cat...

Pretty amazing video. Living in a place where any cat left outdoors soon gets nabbed by a coyote, I can appreciate how this little guy handles the situation. The only negative I can see is that the owner only tapped on the window to scare the coyote away (to prey another day). I'd have shot the god damned thing.

That looks like an older cat to me. He was having trouble jumping up on the railing. Tough kitty though. The coyotes around here are quite a bit bigger and bushier. I’ve lost two cats to I’m assuming Coyotes.

BTW, I have seen the principle in this video play itself out many times. Size does matter, but attitude certainly also does. Against a big guy, you DON'T want him to get ahold of you. If you can avoid that, you've got a good chance. Particularly if you have some skill, if you are angry and unafraid, and also if you are level-headed despite the anger. Aggression, like we see in the video, takes coyotes by surprise. And people too. Attitude Is Everything is an untrue bumper sticker. But it is close to being true.

That looked to me like some loss of coordination due to adrenaline dump (like is common to see when cats spaz out), but age might have been a factor too (I hadn't considered that).

I have to wonder what that cat's long term prospects might be. Caught more in the open, with no cover nor escape route, even that scrawny little 'yote would have prevailed.

Knowing that their neighborhoods are inhabited by these kinds of predators, I can't believe people still let their cats (or even small dogs) out, especially at night. I know around here that the average service life of an outdoor cat is measured in months, if not weeks. Our neighbors have all learned the hard way, and simply do not let them out anymore.

Oh, new neighbors will, and seem to think I'm overly cautious or something when I tell them they should keep their cats in, especially at night. They seem to think I'm making it up, just trying to scare them, or something. Until they lose a cat. Or several. Then the reality sinks in, and they will ask me what they can do about it. Most didn't like the answer before they lost their cat(s), but seem a little more receptive once they have. Kinda like the neighborhood bunnies (the ones responsible for attracting the coyotes to begin with)... "cute", until they eat their gardens down to bare dirt. Then it's "what kind of air rifle would you recommend?"

That coyote only lost a sure meal because he couldn't land a decisive blow to put it down for the count. One decent left hook to that cat's button would have had him dining in fine style - he was four or five times that little kitty's size. He was not only fighting a pussy, he was fighting like a pussy... Too much lovey-dovey grappling and hugging, not enough punching. The cat, however, was punching like a boss...

Cats have the most amazing power to weight ratio and can do well in a brawl.

Haha, one of my cats had it in for a large Rottweiler for no reason at all. He had been baiting the dog for weeks then setup an ambush. He waited then leapt out of the bushes and got him when the rottie was having his morning walk. The owners didn't try to get any money off me but said dog was microns away from losing sight in one eye LOL

No idea what possees the cat because he acts like a real cream puff inside the house and attacks everything that moves outside.

As a kid, I made a pet of a junk yard cat when I was six years old. The junk yard was guarded by shepherds & pincers, so any cat that survived was tough. Dogs didn't stand a chance with him. He was an outside cat that eventually died, at about eight to ten years old, under our house at the time. He did nothing but fight every night and had a scarred up face and tattered ears. Otherwise he was a sweet cat, although he hardly ever let other family members touch or handle him. I don't know if he ever encountered coyotes. If he did, he probably took care of them quickly & efficiently.

I knew a cat that climbed onto tree branches and waited for dogs to walk under. He liked to ride them.
