Turing's work on Enigma was improved by Welchman but he didn't get the credit he deserved. https://mathshistory.st-andrews.ac.uk/Biographies/Welchman/

Well they weren’t particularly kind to Turing either.

Perhaps they should do some analysis and see if a pattern emerges… |

Nor did the Polish Cipher Bureau get the credit for breaking Enigma to begin with. They started their work as early as 1928 and were reading German code from 1932. They turned over their methods to the British and French 5 weeks before the Germans invaded Poland. If you follow what happened to them it is tragic that they did not receive the recognition that quite possibly put the nail in Reich's coffin. Same crap happened to the Polish flyers in the RAF. After all, the west did not want to piss off Uncle Joe. Turing did not break nor develop the methods to break Enigma, he merely used the Poles' methods to keep up with the changes.

			Hey Thanks Flat

Personally - the subject of codes & breaking same has been a fascinating subject to me for years. Good to see there are others out there interested in this oft overlooked but critical part of our history. Cheers JB

If anyone is interested in this stuff - and since you are all old farts I know you have time to spare - David Kahn’s book ‘the codebreakers’ is a pretty good read.

I'm an encryption guy, so I love this stuff. My stepsons are Navajo, so I made sure to talk to them about the Windtalkers when they were growing up. Very cool stuff in history when it comes to codes, breaking codes, and workarounds for developing new encryption techniques.
