I got my prescription reading glasses from Costco & just checked the website. They have blue light blocking reading glasses in different diopters for $25 per pair. At least if you feel they don't work, you can return them.

I found that a high resolution monitor helps a LOT. To look at a display that is "4K" (3840x2160) makes very crisp text edges and a super easy to read display. My business partner has two curved 21 inch monitors side by side. My desk just does not have the space for that.

For many years in the stone ages of computers to have the EGA or enhanced graphics cards of just 640×350 and a whopping 16 colors! And that was a big improvement from the monotone green or amber on a black background on a 14 inch tube. Those would give my young eyes a workout and often a headache.

This is VERY interesting to me. I stare at monitors 12 hours a day :-( and sometimes have troubling eyestrain. My monitors are cheap 27" HD. I wonder if upgrading to 27" 4K monitors would help. I'd need several, at $240/per (minimum EDIT $201/per if buy returns), but if it helps my eyes, that'd be worth it.

Others find that 4K monitors reduce eyestrain noticeably versus HD?

I've just changed all apps that support it to "dark mode".

I probably spend 10-12 hrs per day staring at a monitor. I have always bought decent monitors, so I couldn't tell you how my eyes would react to a cheap one My current is a 27" iMac, so their 5k 5120x2880. It doesn't bother me. I think my previous was 2560x1920 or something like that. I certainly noticed that the new monitor looks great, but didn't notice a difference in my eyes when I switched.

The real difference is looking at text. The edge of the text is like a quality printed book. There are no dots or pixels to see from a normal viewing distance. Even looking at the text up close all you see is a nice sharp letter.

Just an update to this thread...

I purchased some Gunnar blue light blocking glasses suggested by Shifter (thanks!).

After a couple of weeks wearing them in front of the computer I do feel like there's less eye strain. My eyes don't feel as tried at the end of the day. I purchased the 65% blocking glasses.

Nice. Glad that you're noticing results.
