I’m 59 and I prefer pants with an elastic waistband

I’m not ashamed to admit it. I am not comfortable in jeans anymore. Yes, it’s because my gut and love handles spill out over the waist and the material pinches. I prefer tactical pants with some elasticity. It’s like wearing sweats with belt loops. I also don’t like slim fit dress pants anymore. I need more room for my junk. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. Thanks for letting me rant.

A pair of khaki cargo shorts and white New Balance shoes and your wardrobe is complete!

(I haven't given into the elastic yet, but I'm 'that age'!

I’m in the same boat. Between building houses and getting up, down, around all over the house, and working on the car, getting up and down 10,000 times when I’m doing something, looser pants work better. Especially in the summer, when I’m sweating bullets.

Edit: Not elastic waist pants, but a stretch fit.

Stretch Levis 501s have become my go to jeans.

Rusty Heap 03-03-2023 04:22 PM

like rings on an old growth tree, the polyester pant waist line creeps up year after year.

look 171 03-03-2023 04:24 PM

hahahahaha. You had me spitting out my late lunch from the title. My wife will not allow me to wear them.

I am in shorts 364 days out of the year. I own one pair of pants and another for my suit.

Stretch 501s? You got my attention. Looking now.

You won't go back! They are fantastic albeit a bit more expensive. Bought two pair on sale back in the fall and they are a gateway drug to stretchy clothing!;)

I've never worn them but braces seem like a good idea. I don't like pants tight around my waist - cutting into my guts. But I also don't like them slowly working their way down my arse.

So I thought loose fitting pants and braces. Especially for hitting the buffet, room to expand to giant proportions.

I like the feel/fit of the stretchy jeans....but they are hard to keep up without a belt.

look 171 03-03-2023 05:33 PM

I had a pair of Gusset crotch shorts. Makes sitting or doing any type or work easy on the boys. It doesn't impede or press up against them. I know they make pants like it but haven't seem them too often. Anyone tried them? Much better then stretchy pants IMO.

Wrangler makes an outdoor “Flexible” waste pant that is a game changer.

billybek 03-03-2023 06:04 PM

Duluth Trading's Ball Room Jeans. I have a couple of pairs and use them as work pants around the house.

After spending 2 weeks in Turkey in the summer in Levis, never again.
My go to pant is Prana Zion pants.
Not cheap (80-100 a pair) but they breathe, stretch and fit.
I haven't, worn anything else for the last 7 years.
So much so, that my friends think I'm wearing the same pants every day.
But I have 8 pairs, in 3 different colors, so I'm good.
The oldest pair, (7 years old), is still going strong.

If you're climbing Masada or wandering around Troy, these are the pants for you.

By the way, I have tried other brands, like Khule or Columbia, and I like these the best.
But to each his (or her) own.

51 (today) and got my second pair of LLBean Multisport pants for my birthday today. Got my first pair for Christmas. I’m addicted to these. So light and comfortable

Sweats or swim trunks are as far as I go on elastic waist. I think poor fitting pants are mostly about poor fitting pants. No longer having that 17 year old physique and still trying to fit into those same styles or cuts. Its just not happening. The same applies to chicks and yoga pants. When you have to shoe horn yourself in and you can see through the material as its stretches its the same as drinking, enough is enough. If you have pastries and muffins spilling out of your clothes take a hint drops some pounds and get fit. Your health will be rewarded. I see guys dressing in skinny pants and frankly it reminds me of a disgusting cross between Ron Jeremy, Richard Simmonds and Richard Branson. That whole drawstring thing is not zen.

Dont be these guys.

This is where I thought the post was going. When I turned 50, it seemed jeans were just too darned hot to wear any time outside of winter - when they weren't warm enough. I switched to lightweight twill or pricey synthetic hiking pants, except for some fleece-lined jeans for winter.

Summer is shorts season, too darned hot for anything else unless you have to wear pants.

I like the fancy convertible outdoor/hiking pants. They usually have extra pockets that aren't as in your face as cargo pants, and you can zip the legs off. They are tough, but light weight, and usually designed for wet, sweaty action so they are cool and dry fast.
Kuhl and Ex Officio seem to make pretty good stuff.

As far as jeans go, for most of my life I've worn Levis and nothing else. I grew up wearing the levis that when new were so stiff that they would stand up by themselves. The newer levis often seem to be crap quality despite being closer to $100 than $50. I have some expensive jeans that the missus bought that are very nice, and would be something that I'd wear out to a "nice" but not quite "fancy" dinner. But for around the house or yard, I actually bought a couple of pairs of "key" brand jeans from one of the local hardware stores for $16.99. They remind me a lot of the really old Levis. They are comfy, seem tougher than the new Levis, and fit pretty well.

I've done a "Two-fer". I buy elastic pants and I get them from Costco.

Right now they have a Carrhart looking pant with elastic waist for around $20. They have an elastic Lucky Jean for the same price.

Room to move and room to groove.

I was “blessed” with no hips or ass (NHoA). Now at 60 I need stretch waist band unless I can pull off the infinity belt covered by a coat or sweater. I spend many hours a day pulling my pants up cause I have NHoA and basically look stupid out in public. Being from SoCal my go to are elastic shorts and flip flops or just freaking barefoot. Yes I m that guy, caveman
