I wonder how the strength required to drive F1 compares to piloting a MotoGP bike. Women have tried to compete in MGP but haven't been able to succeed. I've always assumed that it's due to the lack of sufficient upper body strength.

^^^ Interesting question . I have wondered about the comparison of an Indy car vs F1 . F1 cars have power steering whereas Indy car do not . To me that would mean more upper body physical strength would be needed for the Indy car . I could be wrong . Katherine Legge had fairly successful Indy car runs .

It's bumpy for an F1 track. It's pretty smooth compared to most other tracks us mortals get to run on.

The bump coming out of turn 17 (which is really just the exit of turn 15) is pretty big. Even in the Cayman it gets my attention since it's about 100 mph under heavy lateral load. I don't think TV really shows how big it is.

Look at how worn out Logan Sargent was yesterday. Granted he's shown he probably has the least fitness on the grid but I doubt there's a female driver who can go 200 miles at race pace.

Captain,
Are the F1 rules public information? Online somewhere?

The level of detail you must live by is maddening, I assume.

Here you go...

2023 F1 Technical Rules

www.fia.com/sites/default/files/fia_2023_formula_1_technical_regulations_-_issue_1_-_2022-06-29.pdf

Just copy and paste the above into Google and you should be able to download all 178 pages

It's heavy reading so if you want to read the plank rules for the two drivers disqualified, just skip to section 3.5.9

I enjoy F1 level of detail, the fun bit is finding the vague parts and exploiting them legally within the rules ie no illegal funny business as any dumb ass can cheat

Great info. Thank you, Captain!

Anytime!

I did read Logan Sargent is the 1st American driver to score points since 1993

You guys need to start a genetic breeding programme or something

We have it for footbal players already. But we do need one for F1 drivers. ;)

The floor violation is pretty frustrating. For there to be two cars of four that failed when the last individual failure was what, '93, is absurd. That tells me that there are very likely several more cars that failed, and that the combination of only one practice session and the bumpy track was throwing the teams off in a serious way.

If I had half of my random sample fail in one test, and the last time I had a failure was a few hundred tests ago, I would probably throw out the test or sample everything. I wouldn't just fail those samples and move on with my life like everything was cool.

That's funny!

I enjoyed a meal out with a few of the guys I've just started working with

Someone asked how long I'd been working in F1, I said you guys go first, we went round the table, 1st person goes 1 week and we end with me and I sheepishly admit to 23yrs

Funny bit is, the difference between my length of time and the next most experienced person was 22 yrs 10 months

Maybe why the floor was ground down.

Adrian Newey will be at Daytona in two weeks. He's running a GT40.

I'll be sure to ask him his thoughts.

Are they charging admission?

Exactly. If a company pulled 4 employees at random for a pee test and 2 failed, they have a problem with the ranks of employees. So if those 2 get fired and no one else gets tested I see lawyers smacking their lips.

Austin was the only F1 race I've seen this year. I'm glad I could switch to Homestead when I started to fall asleep. I'd switch back during NASCAR commercials.
