Perez used to be so smooth and steady, but history is showing us that being the number two at RB will do damage to a driver's psyche.

In some ways he reminds me of Prost when he was at McLaren alongside Lauda. On paper Prost should have been the clear favorite to be champion (an obvious talent in his ascendancy, smooth and steady, a very good car developer and great in the rain) but Lauda's personality overshadowed or maybe even awed him and by the end of the year Niki won his third by 1/2 a point. Maybe Perez is no Prost, talent wise, but he should be getting consistent podiums and instead he's hit and miss, and this is an unfortunate hallmark of the RedBull system.

Entertaining race to watch with the multiple rain showers. I can't imagine 140 MPH into a corner and driving rain falling.

F1 commentators mentioned LeClerc is in contract negotiations with Ferrari. Wonder if he is tempted to walk.

Best

Love that track. Rolling elevations, backed turns, tight slow turns and weather and real people in the stands.
Not a flat hot desert track at night.

Great track, not the typical Tilke bore zone.

And the government subsidies of exactly ZERO. All private financed, and ticket sales. No private cars allowed to drive to the track, all the fans had to ride bicycles. The park them along the beach, unlocked.

^^^ During the race one commentator stated there were 60,000 bicycles parked on the beach ! Can you imagine trying to find your bike after the race ?

The red flag for final rain shower was just stupid. Announcers saying it was due to drivers going off due to hydroplaning. Here's a thought, box and put on full wets.

Otherwise very entertaining. Nice to see Alpine have a good result and also nice for Fernando. Really starting to like that guy.

URY914 08-28-2023 06:44 AM

I think the red flag was for multiple cars going off at turn 1. Safety first.

Couldn't agree more. He'll probably finish 2nd in the championship this year and still be treated poorly.

Evidently Williams admitted Sergent lost his power steering so the crash was not his fault.

Logan Sargent the American was P2 in Q3, then the wheels came off.
Haas just doesn't have the pace and the cars eat tires up to quick.
Lewis should of undercut Russel when the rain started, but him and his team didn't get it right.
Perez was up 14 seconds on Max and he got reeled in real quick. Not good.

You can go on line and read Christian Horner's verbal gymnastics as he tries to explain the reasons he made sure that Max undercut Checo on that 2nd stop.

Horner is absolutely Machiavellian. But so is Toto Wolff, and I'm happier to watch RB crush Mercedes than I would be the other way.

On "strategy" (and behind the scenes machinations), not talent.

Part of the bike parking lot. How does one find their bike?

URY914 08-28-2023 10:41 AM

^^^geotracking I'd bet. Look can you for it on your phone.

matthewb0051 08-28-2023 10:51 AM

It's probably like in Beverly Hills Cop when Axle Foley (Eddie Murphy) asks Jenny Summers if the Mercedes SL they are about to get in after she bails him out of jail; "is this your car"... "No, here in Beverly Hills, we just take the first Mercedes we come to" (to paraphrase)

I was happy to see actual racing in wet conditions. See, they can do it FIA!

No surprise about the winner Zeke.

Bummed for LeClerc, I imagine he cannot wait for this season to end and to have a new car in 2024.

rfuerst911sc 09-01-2023 12:27 PM

If I was the competition I would be very nervous about what Adrian Newey has designed for the 2024 Red Bull .
