I am a firm believer that races should end while racing . It's not a perfect world and I get it . But I don't have to like it .

The NASCAR green/white/checker is not the answer so what do you propose?

rfuerst911sc 04-03-2023 02:52 PM

I would propose that if the race is stopped with less than 5 laps left that they restart and run 5 laps . Not a perfect solution but it's a start .

rfuerst911sc 04-03-2023 03:28 PM

It's also a possibility that I am trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist 😋 . I really enjoyed watching the race , many lead changes and mid pack racing . The ending just felt like a major letdown . At least to me .

Here's a solution for you. At mid race the officials draw straws to determine the final number of laps. That will certainly change the game for the teams sandbagging on fuel to use one less pit stop.

Then on top of that add your green laps as a requisite for a finish. Also, pit stops should have a mandatory time. Let the drivers race cars and each other, I don't give a rat's azz about how fast Bubba can wield his air gun.

I think the drivers ought to have a few seconds to take deep breath. F1 should go to 5 seconds. IndyCar 10 and NASCAR 15 or 20.

I know fast pit stops are a thing now at Le Mans. They should be a minute for driver change and 30 seconds for others. The driver thing is for safety making sure the driver is all hooked up.

Long Beach race today was fun to watch . Some daring well executed passes and some that ended in disaster . Nice to see a new face in the winners circle .

Por_sha911 04-16-2023 08:18 PM

I was pleasantly surprised that today's race was fun to watch.
Normally Long Beach has very little passing and lead changes are from accidents, breakdowns, and pit times. Everyone plays follow the leader until one of the above happens.

Observation:
- I think that Dixon's days are coming to a close. He's still a great driver but not the threat that he used to be.
- I wonder how Rossi feels leaving Andretti and then they start winning.
- In the post race interview, O'Ward acted like a punk. IMO he made a bad move and instead of admitting he could have made a better choice, he doubles down and says he did nothing wrong.
- I miss P.T. doing commentary. Who's going to point out the classic "Pruett fade"?

IMO Laps run under yellow should not count towards race laps.

When the yellow comes out, stop counting.
Start again when it goes green.
And stop throwing a yellow every time the wind
blows a leaf across the track.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th what a result

Prerace tv coverage starts today at 3:00 on NBC and Peacock . Beautiful venue and hopefully some good racing .

Barber seems to have a wonderful flow to it. Does not seem to be that technical ( compared to sebring , for instance ). just long flowing corners, nice elevation changes. more like Mid O.?
Look forward to racing there.

^^Yet the announcers were saying it's one of the toughest physically to drive. That was a good race. I hate this fuel saving siht and I am losing enthusiasm for Push To Pass. But at least the fuel saving is only strategy and not mandatory. F1 gets what? 90 liters?

Once again...never bet against Penske.

Por_sha911 04-30-2023 06:13 PM

I attended the inaugural race there. It is a really cool place for the fans.
As far as the track is concerned, it is not easy because there are so many different turns and elevation changes and there is no place to relax. Watch how many shifts the driver makes in one lap.

Great Race, way more action than F1 today. Some daring passes

I watched the F1 race in 30 minutes. Fast forwarded to the pit stops looking for some action. Didn't get any until the last lap when the pit lane was blocked. The Sky Sports announcers went nuts about it.

What has happened to Colton Herta? Last year, you could write it off as the entire Andretti team having a bad year. This year? Andretti is back and Herta has only 1 top 5 finish and is even missing Fast 6 qualifying.

rfuerst911sc 05-01-2023 10:07 AM

I wonder if Colton is suffering from the decision to move his father to a sister team ? His dad has been in his ear since being a child , maybe he misses the strategy calls from his dad .
