A better question:
Who is going to crash on the first lap?

rfuerst911sc 05-27-2023 05:18 AM

Hopefully crashes will be at a minimum . I read that this is the fastest qualifying field ever at the 500 . Average speed for the entire field is 232.124 mph . That is an incredibly fast pace . I like competitive racing but I also want everyone to go home at the end of the day . They all know the risks . Good luck to the entire field .

I agree but, at the same time we know that Takuma, Marco, and Helio are in the starting grid. That said, at least Jimmy Johnson is there.

Or the last lap. Remember J. R. Hildebrand who crashed in T4 while leading? He's been back a few times but MIA this year.

I don't mind the occasional commercial, but jeeezuz! The streaming Peacock broadcast is nothing but a series of commercials interrupted by a race every 5-10 minutes

2nd time in a couple weeks that a crash has had enough force to open a helmet face shield. Whoever makes those I don't want one. Glad Kirkwood didn't get parts in his face/eyes.

CurtEgerer 05-28-2023 12:53 PM

and is that the first time a wheel/tire has come loose since the introduction of the tethers?? Sheer luck it didn't go into the spectators.

Hoping it never hit any person walking about. If it had gone into the stands it could have been even worse.

Zeke 05-28-2023 01:18 PM

Yeah, I think that tire went just a few feet over the fan's heads.

What a bunch of children.

JackDidley 05-28-2023 01:24 PM

First 450 miles were not terrible. Except for the pit lane crashes . Those were terrible. Ending lap was exciting.

There's a rumor that that was Graham Rahal's rental car that got hit.

Never bet against Penske.

But, wow! How 'bout A.J.'s rock star driver?

p911dad 05-28-2023 02:03 PM

That was a wild shootout finish! Newgarden pulled it out.

That's pretty funny.

Enjoyed it for the finish and not for the virulent red flags.

I could not believe it when Veekay took out Palou in the pits.

Happy for Newgarden’s win. Great drive to move up the field then balls out at the finish.

I give IndyCar credit for not finishing the race under yellow. Let them race!

Great fun

Por_sha911 05-28-2023 07:37 PM

A relatively uninteresting race until it got interesting.
The 500 is all about the first 10 laps, restarts, and the last 50 laps. This year was no exception.
-Three red flags was kinda weird but I understand why they want a race to finish under green.
-I disagreed with letting the yellow laps go so long until the first red flag. That was bogus.
-There was a lot of whining about the final start with the green and the white flag at the same time. Seemed to me like Ericsson was just a sore loser. He reminds me of hockey fans (myself included) that question calls made by the refs when it goes against their team.

As has been said many times, there is nothing you can do to guarantee a win. Indy (some would say 'fate' or 'luck') decides who will win.

p.s. Rahal just wasn't going to get a break this year. I bet he wishes he had stayed on the couch and watched the race on TV.
