Ahh, P.L. Newman, the racer. He preferred that to being Paul, the actor.

One thing Cruise can't do, is pilot an F-18

Frankly, I'm in awe. His quirks are completely tolerable. He delivers seriously entertaining movies and I'll always watch them. I believe this video was posted, but Jeez. This guy is committed. He must be a bona-fide thrill seeker. I'm shocked the studio agreed to let him do all the stunts he does.

Stay married? :) Honestly, he is way more likeable after the new Top Gun than at any time in the last 20 years - at least to me.

I think that video is older than 11 years. Coulthard hasn't been with RBR since 2008.

Dude is 50 years old and doing stuff like this is just incredible.

But did I hear correctly? They trashed 6 motorcycles to get that shot? :D

The P-51 Mustang in the move was his own. Probably got a full rebuild with the rental fees.
The movie was 'acceptable'. Love that preflight burnout. Hard turns at mach 9. Ejection at mach 10.

Very fit, driven, completely self-made, talented, and one of the few actors Hollywood producers are scared of.
Very entertaining on screen despite a few modes. American Made and Vanilla Sky are favs. Eye's Wide Shut was a documentary.

and as momma said..that's all the good things I have to say.

In the new season Of Drive to Survive there are a number of shots of him in the
Mercedes Petronas pit area. He's a real F-1 enthusiast.

His skill level is off the charts.

People were outraged that a new 1964 Lincoln Continental was crushed in Goldfinger. The good news is they took the engine out beforehand. The bad news is Mr. Solo was in the back seat, along with $1M worth of gold in the trunk.

Willow Springs no less. How much did it cost to fly the car, crew, support, camera crew and on and on?

The way he comes off of that bike and right into an airfoil shape without flailing about is really impressive.

Isa there anything he can't do?

Swing a bat.

Saw Paul Newman in the pits as well.

I was a SCCA volunteer Grid Worker at Road Atlanta back in those days. Mr. Newman was always polite and interacted with us prior to the 5 minute warning......but it was well known...talk about the track conditions, start procedure, how's the car handling today?, anything about the racing was a pleasant conversation. Ask for an autograph or about a movie, and the conversation ended.

Tom, on the other hand.......would't speak to anyone and was generally rude. I think it was more youthful entitlement than anything else, as he was still young and had just finished The Color of Money.

By the way.....he was with Mimi Rodgers at the time and it was she that didn't approve of the racing according to the grapevine. He wouldn't meet Nicole Kidman until later on Days of Thunder.

You all should be glad there's a Tom Cruise alive right now.

He's like this generation's Errol Flynn, Kirk Douglas, or Tony Curtis. Actors that weren't afraid to do stuff...

Actually I also liked Mel too... But, Mel had to be Mel...
Brilliant producer and director no matter what...

I can barely think about getting off the couch. I have to psyche myself up.

I believe it is mostly real....but...you know...Hollywood.

I'm wondering if there might have been a 'chute' on the bike also that auto opened at a lower altitude.

Tom makes entertaining movies. I particularly like Edge of Tomorrow.
He is in excellent shape and does a lot of his own stunts.
I even heard that he is going into space to film his next movie.

Boy, I would love his life, except for the really weird stuff.

He is a Level 8 OT, so he can do all sorts of things us normal (poorer) people can't.
He has probably met Xenu personally and sits at the right hand of LRH.
He is treated like a god in Scientology and is best friends with David Miscavage.

So, talented, yes. Crazy, yes too.

I started typing same today then the phone rang...... I think the first half of Edge of Tomorrow is spectacular. The sci-fi business is awesome and the directing is as good or better than the very first Terminator. (RIP Bill Paxton)
