Going to Luft 9 - where should we stay in the Bay area?
My son and I pan to drive to Luft 9 in the end of April. Where is good to stay? We plan to drive one of my Porsches - likely the 930 Slant.
Where should we stay that we could afford to park an aircooled Porsche at night?

Where will the event be held?
I am going up with a small group for a bike ride the week before. We always stay in Downtown, Hotel Nikko or the Hilton SF across the street. The guys like it there because its centrally located and we Uber everywhere within 10 mins. Plenty of nice places to eat but it is right next to the Tenderlion, hell hole. Sure there are bums on the streets right outside of the hotels, but people, both tourist and business folks walk right pass them like if they aren't there. We walk to places near by for late night snacks but then there are about 5-6 of us guys. In your situation maybe different with your little boy. If you stay in the suburbs, the SF big city feel is lost. Oh, we valet our vehicles so its in a safe place with many hotel staff watching day and night. |

So the venue isn't finalized as of today. I would say: stay as close to the venue as possible.

Has your kid been to SF? If possible take the tour boat that goes to the Golden Gate and back, a big loop or take the ferry to Marin county, Sauslito or Tiburon for lunch or snack. Its nice and very safe there. He will enjoy Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 and all the water front shops and places. Madam Tussauds nearby has a great show down below in the basement of the building. My kids were 7 and at the time and they loved it. Suspenseful and mysteriously and somewhat interactive. I think there's a new one call Sherlock Holmes but It is very similar. He will be at the edge of his seat. Don't drive there, uber or take public transport.

My son was in SF when he was 1 or 2 when I first raced at Laguna Seca…
We plan to check out some of the sights. Our plans also depend a bit on whether my car gets accepted for the show. I’m going to submit the 911 and the 930. I really don’t want to drive the 911 all the way there…

I remember you driving the 930 down to CA a couple years back. Is the 911 a track car? That would be a hard drive if you get some bad weather between you and Montana.
Where will the event held? I only been to first few down here in LA. Stop after the 7th one |

You could stay in the city somewhere so your son has a good fun city time, and put the car in a parking building. Maybe throw a car cover over it so it's not so interesting.

The Bay Area is a pretty vague term as the website suggests "50 miles".
-The north will be more open. Tight open cliffs west like scotland, big mountain driving center, the desert stix east. Take the freeway to the event and then Hwy1 along the coast back if you have time. Lots of forest and few gas stations. -The SF peninsula down past SJ will be packed with traffic. One block beautiful. The next very scary. Everyone is stuck in traffic with idiots. Avoid the city at all costs. -The south will also be tight twisty forested roads and little towns. Like the world is shrunk and infinite at the same time.

Don't forget Infineon Raceway...
I saw hotel recommendations the other day and one was in SF and several were in the Napa Valley. That's why I suggested Indian Springs. How could a show like this not have a venue lined up 7 weeks before the event?

Their website is recommending hotels up in the Napa Valley, so I would imagine it’s probably up there somewhere. Maybe at one of the wineries…

Sounds like they haven't secure a place yet but are selling tickets and it always seems to sell out. Last one at the lumber yard was the same, sold out tickets so I decided to stop by on my way to my rental which is about 5 min away and was turned away by someone at the gate making comments about it being for air cool Porsche owners or enthusiasts only. People who run that show or involved had turned out to be real pompous dicks. There's always Rennsport. Much nicer and relax atmosphere without the nose-up-in-the-air air cool owners or folks involve. Have tickets and hotels booked for that already.

I read their website on how to go and / or show your car and my head spins reading he ticket information. Can one of you let me know what I’d need to do now if I want to attend with my kid and possibly show my car?
+1 on Calistoga |

Looks like it'll take place at the former Naval shipyard on Mare Island, across San Pablo Bay and northeast of SF.
