Any song you began to hate?

For many pool players, it's "werewolves of London", because of a movie scene. Young bangers (low skill players who "bang" every shot) would come into pool halls and play it over & over. This would have the regulars grinding their teeth.

NEVER behave this way in a pool hall unless you enjoy having your ass kicked. It's extremely bad form to disrespect an opponent.

So, any song you grew to hate? Any story attached?

stevej37 03-21-2023 03:25 PM

Any song by 'Bad Company'
So overplayed in my day that I just can't listen to them anymore. :D

Chocaholic 03-21-2023 03:32 PM

Achy Breaky Heart. -Billy Ray Cyrus

I win!

rwest 03-21-2023 04:18 PM

Narls Barkley “Crazy” I hated it from the first time I heard it- too much repetition. I’m in a minority as it was super popular and maybe won a music award?

Tervuren 03-21-2023 04:44 PM

Hate?

Not sure I'd use the word.

Annoying?

First song I ever found annoying was "waiting on the world to change", or some such title by someone named John Mayer(sp).

Used to hear it in waiting rooms, and other places as a kid.

Runner up, slow dancing in a building burning, also probably by this John Maierer.

Those are the first two, and my annoyance with them dates from an early age.

cantdrv55 03-21-2023 04:59 PM

I wanna know what love is - holy crap every time I turn on Pandora, that song is first to come on

Superman 03-21-2023 05:09 PM

I am a cover musician, playing popular songs at nightclubs, festivals, the occasional casino.... Songs get tired after playing them several hundred times. But as a plain listener.....I hope to never hear Fly Like An Eagle again.

craigster59 03-21-2023 05:23 PM

Hot Blooded by Foreigner is up there along with Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks.

The Synergizer 03-21-2023 05:31 PM

Anything by Kiss I immediately change the channel.

A930Rocket 03-21-2023 05:32 PM

Any song from Boston.

The first couple hundred times were OK, but after that, I was sick and tired of them.

Brian 162 03-21-2023 05:36 PM

Anything from Pink Floyd

flatbutt 03-21-2023 05:39 PM

Freebird, I do actually hate that song.

cantdrv55 03-21-2023 05:42 PM

Sweet Home Alabama

That takes some big heavy swinging balls to say but I hear you, Brian.

Not that I hate Pink Floyd one little bit but I could see this occuring.

Like their entire discography?

herr_oberst 03-21-2023 06:41 PM

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

VINMAN 03-21-2023 07:04 PM

Don't Stop Believing/ Journey (Sopranos ruined it for me...)

Sweet Caroline/ Neil Diamond ( barroom crowd singing )

I'm a second for anything Pink Floyd. Except Division Bell...

.

porsche930dude 03-21-2023 07:10 PM

Journey. Cant freakin escape it listening to the radio they play it on every station! Back in the day every station played different stuff. Not anymore

billybek 03-21-2023 07:20 PM

Stairway to Heaven.
Like a lot of Led but not that.

Noah930 03-21-2023 07:31 PM

Anything Justin Bieber. Unfortunately, I am in a very small minority.

look 171 03-21-2023 08:09 PM

I like almost all Pink Floyd songs but I really dislike Money. I really don't like the Doors or the Police. No, I take that back, I hate the Doors. They are way before my time, but I just can't deal.

otto_kretschmer 03-21-2023 08:48 PM

anything from INXS

LWJ 03-21-2023 08:54 PM

Fleetwood Mac. After they added the female singers they went to hell.

jcommin 03-22-2023 04:24 AM

Some good choices here. I can add Hotel California - overplayed and awful. One of my favorite albums is Desperado by the Eagles. It's not the group, it is just the song.

oldE 03-22-2023 04:52 AM

I Get Knocked Down by Chumba Wumba. I just want to give it a shot.

It is funny what triggers some of our reactions. I haven't heard that song in ages, but it popped into my head when I read the thread title.
Many of the songs or groups mentioned are on my "Songs for the Asking " list. 200+ songs I can do for requests. When I was doing gigs at the Legion, I was surprised at the lack of appreciation for "Hallelujah ", as it was one of the most requested songs in the Bistro. Turns out everyone else was doing it and the regulars were tired of hearing it. After I that, I made sure about half of my set list was stuff they hadn't likely heard in a while. That worked.

Best
Les

My African Gray parrot learned that song. It was torture..

Blinded by the light be Manfred Mann.

That one song forced me to stop listing to radio. The last classic rock and roll radio station in our area always bragged about the huge library of records. Yet they played that song at least once and often twice per day.

I turned off my radio and changed to Pandora. If Pandora plays a song I don't like, thumbs down and I never hear it again. In my cars I have all my CDs ripped to a 32 gig thumb drive, and they play in random order. If a song comes on that I don't care at the moment, poke a button and the next song is played. And Manfred Mann is not on there at all.

URY914 03-22-2023 06:20 AM

Phil Collins songs. All of them. Every........single.........one.

2.7RS 03-22-2023 06:28 AM

Im so sick of Taylor Swift whining and whining.....

porsche930dude 03-22-2023 06:31 AM

Ramblin man is super annoying too. The beginning is ok but the repetition at the end goes on and on. and the "I keep Bleeding" song by some lady on the pop stations. I call it the hemofelia song. I swear some of these modern singers are completely tone deaf I dont know how they managed to get famous. Theyre probobly just super hot.

MTV and other video outlets created careers from mediocre artists - that and Autotune.

They made one song and just retitled it.

Agree just awful.

Richard Marx is banned from all radios in my possession. Lawyers Guns and Money is truly terrible to add to the OP. Kokomo. Anything George Michael gives me the creeps now. Anything Springsteen thanks to him opening his mouth in politics (and being a complete fraud). Eminem.

Zeke 03-22-2023 06:46 AM

Sugar Shack. That's just the worst followed by hundreds.

Turned all tunes off a few years backs. Some Muscle Shoals blues once in a while. A little old jazz and some old, old country, but not bluegrass.

Por_sha911 03-22-2023 06:48 AM

I was hoping people would answer the question about songs you began to hate as opposed to never liked the band The OP gave an example that fits the theme.

My first car had AM radio. The local rock station would play American Pie 'constantly'. At first I liked it but because it was played so much and was 8 minutes in length, it became tiresome and just got 'sick' of hearing it amd grew to hate it. Many decades later, I enjoyed listening to it again.

Basically, if you grew up listening to radio you would get tired to songs that were played to death. Hey Jude was another one because it was overplayed and just seemed to drone on and on.

One star for all the posts that didn't answer the question.

911 Rod 03-22-2023 06:49 AM

Christmas songs.

Ah ok to be on point i'd have to say Aerosmiths dude looks like a lady or anything from that era. Massively overplayed.

Amen!!

Went to a Collins concert years ago with a business associate. About halfway thru his set, I got poked and awakened by my wife.

UGH!!

Add Magic Man to my despised list. Way too much play when released.

masraum 03-22-2023 07:36 AM

I'm not sure that there's anything that I've grown to hate. But there are certainly songs that I used to like, and probably could hear every day, but now, I may only like to hear them very rarely, and a lot of it is stuff that's been mentioned, Boston, Steve Miller, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc... I'm still OK with most of them, but there are stand-outs - Freebird, Fly Like an Eagle, Hotel Cali, Sweet Home Alabama, etc.... If those come on, there's a 50-75% chance that I'll skip them, but every once in a while, I'm happy to listen.

berettafan 03-22-2023 07:42 AM

Almost forgot the pina colada song guy did another tune called telephone or something like that. It is truly offensive to the ears.
