I hate the new 18" bases in BASEball.... it's right there in the name,,, how could they change the bags?
can't quit looking at them....

Just effing kill me. That would be great cause I'm not seeing a connection. 66 years is a good run.
Why is MLB going to larger bases? The bigger bases — going from 15- to 18-inch squares — are part of a flurry of changes by Major League Baseball designed to put more action and athleticism back in the game and make it more appealing to a younger generation of potential fans.

Maybe he thought this was a poll, and he voted the number of stars commensurate with his, ahem, size?

George Carlin had good ideas for MLB years ago. One strike your out and if you can hit the runner with the ball he's out. The landmines in the outfield was just crazy talk though.
Not sure bigger bases will make a difference, unless they were looking for base runners tripping.

It wasn't me. Why would I?...I'm a baseball fan also. Almost every thread that I start, is given a one star by someone. When I see it, I give myself a five star, which turns it into three. It started about two years back...and I have complained about it on here several times.

Though one doesn't even have to be logged on to "rate threads" (although one can't even see PARF now), it was obviously someone with an "agenda" .... over in PARF, and spilling over imo. A few long time posters (now gone), would have their PPOT threads "one starred" and ALL PARF threads were rated. I used to "notice" it, and although it was childish and annoying .... I made it to 4th grade and went mobile ![]() Just ignore them.... it's stooopid. And baseball has just lost their freakin' minds .... too many beanballs ![]() edited: I just switched to desktop view and went to PARF to see the "shooting" thread that I started and was moved over ..... yep.... what I posted still holds true ![]() Weenie heads ![]() Last edited by KFC911; 03-28-2023 at 04:08 AM.. |

And baseball has just lost their freakin' minds .... too many beanballs ![]() Agree. I posted this before...but at one time I was one of the biggest Tiger fans of all. I was at Tiger Stadium for Denny Mclains 30th win. I was also there for the final game of the 84 world series against San Diego. Same for the 89 ALS championship, which they lost....and prob 30 or so games in the reg season. I still have my ticket from the 84 series. Not bad for living 3.5 hrs away. ![]()

This last time at a BB game, I was too distracted by the Tokyo wagyu hot dog prices and video-game light display with fake cheering pumped into the stands, to even notice what was happening on the field.

I can't care less about ball games of any sort, but I have a question on the new bases.
If they are 2 inches bigger, I guess it makes the distance between the bases two inches closer together when you add an inch from each base together. Is two inches that much of a difference to the game? I am way too lazy to do the math, but at professional player level of base running for a human the shortened time to get there must be just hundredths of a second. What real difference does a slightly bigger base really make? Just curious.

I'm guessing it makes base-stealing a tiny bit easier, and the game more dynamic in this day and age.
(i.e. requires more than a spit and tug to earn that eight figure salary)

Rounding the bases will be faster. More doubles and triples and scoring from first.

I don't understand the rationale behind the bag size change, and also don't care. The clock is my issue. I am vehemently opposed to the introduction of a clock into baseball. For more than a hundred years, baseball was THE sport played without a clock. Why is a clock needed? To make more time for commercials. This is pure BS. A pitcher's ability to influence the pace of a game is part of baseball. WAS part of baseball. Same with batters. All part of the spectacle. The drama. The strategy.

I'd guess that a larger base gives an advantage to the runner except for 1st base. The larger bag gives the 1st baseman 3 more inches on their stretch.

Counterclockwise?

I thought part of it was for safety? Less blocking and collisions.

from what ive heard and read it is to promote more of the running game. in addition to the base size increase a pitcher can only throw over to a base once per batter so after the 1st throw over to say 1st the runners lead can increase a bunch. i think the clock will result in more base stealing as well due to the pitcher needing to get set and go.
im not a huge baseball watcher, but you can see the difference in base size to be sure.
