That Char Broil Grill Warranty

My father gave me a Char Broil Grill from costco in 2004. We've replaced burners twice so far, replaced under their 99 year warranty and sent to us for price of shipping ($5.45). We were actually starting to think about buying a new grill because 19 years is a little long in the tooth.

Well my parents are downsizing so dad just gave me his much nicer costco branded grill that he bought at the same time. The costco grill is much thicker gauge steel, has stainless burners and has never needed a thing. Nice grill.

Wife wanted to toss our trusty char broil in the landfill. I was shocked it seems wasteful to toss 80# of stainless grill into the garbage.

Opened up the char broil, burners are exfoliating again, and this time the stainless burner hats are corroded through. Called char broil and they're sending a 3rd set of replacement burners and new hats. He had to look up the product to see it had a 99 year warranty, then get supervisor permission. Says we're still $60 below the part replacment limit in the 'limited warranty'.

Figure I'll fix it up this one last time and then find a new home for it. 19 years!

My Fire Magic is 23 years old and the only thing replaced is the ignitor button and the weather cover. Great grill, pricey.

I love taking something old and giving it new life. Good for you for not junking it.

Reminds me of an old thread from 2016: An utter waste of time

BTW the leaf blower base is still on the job. I don't know how many tens of hours it has saved me.

A friend gave me his Fire Magic. He replaced one set of burners and the other side needed it as well.

Cleaned it all up (re-opened holes in new burners, etc) and only use the new burner side. It is very high quality. Same age as yours and it definitely ain't rusting out.

To bring the other side back to life it will cost $500-ish for burners and the gas feed manifold. Ouch.

It's a basic model and cost him $1,900 back in '02. Comparable today is over $5k.

The Jenn aire is made by nexgrill, you might call and ask them what you’d need to refurbish it. Nexgrill has a bad rep but they made the Costco grill my dad just gave me, and it seems nice and has lasted 19 years.

There’s a set of people that are happy to spend big bucks on grills but I’m not advanced enough to appreciate it. They’re so simple that I bucket expensive grills along with the overpriced outdoor furniture at the easy livin’ stores - what space aliens would shop there?

I did see a Kalamazoo grill once in a fancy kitchen store and it was a breathtaking item, I just stood and gawked, but it was I think > $20k or $30? It was a bit too fancy for me, not sure I’d want one even for free but it was neat to look at. The hood is on a ball bearing cammed axle and you can tell someone got the math right.

My older Weber Genesis gas grill has been great. Even holds temperature accurately. Been outside uncovered for years and used myriad of times. BUT looking at new ones --they appear to be way cheapened as far as how they are built .

Bob,

I have some spare parts, including burners. I would need to go find them in my stash of parts but I could make you a great deal on them, if they fit. A deal like postage only.

Thanks. I'll post some pics, model type and clarification on what I need.

Some of the guys here may be able to help with thoughts on DIY-ing the gas manifold tubing hardware.

@speedster911: Costco has built their own now. And they have the natural gas kit available.

Their top tier model is online only according to the Costco mag delivered yesterday. It has an infrared burner above the grill plus 2 side burners for your pans as an option.

Problem is they run 3k+ to 5k+ $$$$$!!!!

[Edit:] behind the grille
