Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons & Dragons was surprisingly fun mostly because it didn't take itself seriously, at all, some clever writing, fairly funny, good acting (Chris Pine moves the story) which was half decent, nice ending. Would have been the perfect summer movie, certainly better in July than walking out into 40F rain after the show. Only real downside was they did something to Michelle Rodriguez's hair that (shockingly) decreased her hotness points by more than 1 or 2. Noticed total nerdfest audience leaving the theater, that was great.

91/93% Critics/Audience score

doing an image search, I see what you mean. Her weird cone-head hairdo and the bulked up outfits make her look rather mannish.

I’ll go see that.

Terrific movie! So well done, super entertaining, no gimmicks, I just loved it.

The acting was a bit wooden overall, but Thora Birch was a fine empress, and Marlon Wayans brought that classic Wayan's Roguishness to the set, while not being too slapstick.

Overall, 3 dragons out of 5.

For you young kids who may not know; Dungeons & Dragons was a thing going back in the late 70s or early 1980s.

Your wayback machine is set to 2000? What did you think of Memento? I loved The Cell myself.

The movie was made because it's popular again, thanks to Stranger Things. There are a bunch of books based on it as well, called LitRPG (literature based on role-playing games).

I think a lot of folks are still familiar because there are similar games out there today, like "Magic the Gathering". I think things have been simplified because they are played with cards.

Young people today are familiar with D&D - my son explained it all to me, in detail.

I kind of regret not playing D&D in my own youth.

My 14 yo is into Magic the Gathering. He likes hanging out with his nerdy friends at the local "shop" and they stay out of trouble there. Coincidentally, I was working with a 15 yo who said she was into Pokemon when I mentioned my son's interest. The 15 yo's dad spoke up and said he was into Magic as well and owns over 40K cards and estimated their value at $33K.

I never played either.

My grandson (about to be 7) loves Pokemon. His dad is into Magic the Gathering (and I think other similar stuff as well). Although I'm pretty sure he doesn't have $33k worth of cards. Good grief, I hope not.

The preview looks good, and Chris Pine was very entertaining in the similar characters in Star Wars and Wonder Woman. I can see this being entertaining.

I loved D&D when I was kid. Our group had two problems. A couple of kids took it way too seriously. 1 or 2 not enough. Time to play was also hard to come by in MN. Summer you are outdoors every second of the day until 9 or 10 at night when kick-the-can ended. Winter there's sledding, skiing and sleeping from exhaustion.
