No car I've ever owned had a feature that adjusted the rear brakes as a result of using the handbrake.

And there’s a good reason to do it, which many people don’t understand.

My good reason is, I bought a 99 Dodge Ram Quadcab brand new on a Saturday. Leaving for work Monday, I backed out of the garage and saw the interior door was still open. I pulled back in the garage to close it. When I put it in “park” I opened the door to get out, and the truck started rolling back, knocking me down. DOH!

The truck went a little further and hit the center section between the two garage doors, bending the door hinges/door.

Ms. Rocket and I took it to the Dodge dealer to get fixed, using a piece of rope to keep the door semi closed. First thing the guy said was, you hit the garage door didn’t you? Yup.

Everybody knew I was buying a new truck that weekend and wondered why I showed up in my old 87 Nissan hardbody truck. 😂

To this day. I’ve always engage the parking brake.

My BMW 330 is a manual, so I was use the parking brake.

Some older drum brake cars would adjust the rear brakes by backing up and braking sharply several times. Fronts you had to pry the star wheel.
