The thought of mayo and peanut butter on the same sammich is ..... blech :(!
Had a buddy in FL years ago that would order stuff "on the board" .... everyone seemed to know it meant "cut in half" .... except me! There is only ONE way to properly cut a Cubano sammich in half fwiw ;). Speaking of Banh Mi .... I visited the local place earlier this week (my first encounter)... got a pulled chicken and a beef to go. They were absolutely delicious .... but I did NOT eat them both at the same time! I ate the chicken... then I ate the beef :D |

I've never heard of "on the board" before. I don't want or need most sandwiches cut in half. A Cubano must be cut in half (on the diagonal). Long sandwiches (po'boy, hoagie, etc...) can be but don't have to be. |
No self-respecting southerner would slice a banana for a sandwich any way but lengthwise. They sure would not squash or smear it like avocado toast. You slice them the other way for nanner pudding.
But mayo on it? Hard pass (of course, I really don't much care for mayo). PB would work though if one had a craving or something a bit different (sorta like a fresh PB&J). |
Bottom line, just eat the banana by itself and forgo the bread and certainly mayo of other stuff. I don't think I have eaten white bread since I was a kid and mom made the sandwiches. I prefer whole wheat if I am eating sandwiches. I can say I have never had a banana sandwich and have no plans to try one.
One of my buddies said they were at some restaurant that had the Elvis sandwich and it was white bread, bananas, PB and then deep fried with some cage contraption to squeeze and hold it together then served cut in half diagonally. They ordered one for the table and had it quartered and all four of them had a bite of it. Whatever, not for me. |
I'm a wheat bread guy too ... but 'nanners and Kraft singles just belong on white bread .... with a thin spread of Dukes... or PB if yer name is Elvis!

Builds strong bodies 12 ways! Team this up with peanut butter and jelly and you are all set. |
Yeah yer right.... PB&J goes on white bread too!

There used to be a Los Angeles disc jockey on AM and his sign off was, "Momma, get out the peanut butter and banana sandwiches, I'll be home in 5 minutes."
I think it was KRLA. Googled it. Sam Riddle, KRLA '60-'63 and KFWB '63-'65. |
