Some of these mentioned are not double albums.....
As far as The Who's "Tommy"......I would have to counter with: https://progrography.com/wp-content/...adrophenia.jpg |

Double album, it is right there in the title. Allman Brothers was the first thing came to mind, how old was he when he wrecked that motorcycle? I was glad when CDs came out on that one, they don't wear out. Exile on Main Street, Physical Graffiti, Quadrophenia, Tommy, Yessongs, White Album, Exit Stage Left, The Wall. I don't know what I pick for second, but Fillmore East is first. Wait one, greatest hits albums are fair game? Steely Dan then, no question. The Wall. In college, the guys in the room next door to us in the dorm painted that album cover on the wall of their dorm. Ben was a talented artist, writer, GD brilliant to tell you the truth. I should go see him. |
Most have been mentioned but two of the great ones are missing. Both Live Albums.
Grand Funk Railroad "Caught In The Act" and The Kinks "One More For The Road". Also Lynyrd Skynrds "One More From The Road". |
“Live Dead” immediately came to my mind.
|
I think its got to be The Wall or Psychical Graffiti

I guess the subject is limited to double albums exclusively on vinyl, and from the 1970s? In that case I would have to go with Kiss Alive, like Mr. FintIsStoned, but if not then my two favorite double albums are Slipknot 9.0 Live (2005) and Nightwish - Showtime, Storytime (also live, from the music festival Wacken Open Air - 2013)

For pure greatest hits, doubles .... add in the Stones -Hot Rocks (for the earlier years) The Beatles - The red one and the blue one. I was never a big fan of Greatest Hits albums.... as I bought all the albums individually, but in the mid-80s, when rock CDs began to appear and few offerings .... I bought anyrhing I could get my hands on :). For years... both for albums and later CDs, I would visit a couple of "stores" just about every Tuesday (release day) to see what just came out. Often I got exposed to new stuff they were playing in the store as I browsed the sections. |
Nobody has mentioned Wings over America. Oops, it's a triple.
I remember seeing a video of Baz driving around Florida in his Volvo listening to "the real me" from Quadrophenia. :D |

I wore that album out, and retired it to a bookshelf after getting a clean digital copy. A > 20 year younger co-worker was a huge McCartney fan, and I gifted the old album to her. You would have thought I'd given her the Holy Grail. :) I forgot Steely Dan's Greatest was a four-record album. Not aware of any other single album that did that, "box sets" excluded. |
My favorite 3 sided album. Still got it 54 years later

In high school here ('70-'72) a classmate who played bass guitar also made compilation 8 tracks and the one he made for me had this Dylan cover on it: <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vUXhoIf1eQU?list=PLZoLDMwuisq5epcpf-UOPAjVfySHw7ody" title="Highway 61 Revisited" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Someone's gotta post some Roger Dean artwork. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1681486044.jpg We had this hanging in the dorm room. One night on some long strange trip, I noticed the two "holes" in the floating rock were really eyes of an owl staring at me, and his two wings spread above him to make the base for the second deer. The effer' started flapping his wings and flew off. :) |

I already had ALL of the albums :) |
