One thing I really miss about vinyl is the quality of the cover art and all the lyrics and liner notes.

Absolutely ... even CDs that come with the little booklets, etc. .... it's just not the same.

I love vinyl .... don't get me wrong... meticulously cleaning each side before playing, ... the ritual, and perusing the covers, etc.

But digital convenience won me over ... my albums have been stashed away for many years .... in Peaches/Coconuts' crates .... each cover in their plastic sleeve :D

Nice shelving for your records, Doug. Alphabetically arranged, I assume?

I'm going with the way discogs recognizes alphabetical, that way I can use the website to peruse my collection.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1681740669.png

Not sure I understand - how does that work? Thanks!

Discog arranges them on your personal collection. Anything you buy off discog can easily be added to your collection either individually, or by purchase. Otherwise you need to do a disccog search on the deadwax code. Once found add it to your collection with the icon next to the wish list icon.

Harder to describe.

Anyway, when I scroll through my collection on the app, I arranged my albums to mirror that order. It makes things easy to find and I like the feature a lot.

OK thanks, Doug. I guess I'll just stick to my old system.

(A) Allman Brothers
(B) Jeff Beck
(E) Elton John
(L) Led Zeppelin
(W) The Who

etc etc

Slight thread drift......but related to catelogging media......

Back in the early 90's I worked for Cablevision Industries and received free cable as part of the employee perks package.

So I decided to tape movies which aired on the premium channels (no commercials).

Back then it was all VHS. So I amassed a ridiculous collection of movies. Mostly 3 movies to a tape.

I had to figure out a way to catalog them. I decided to use an address book and entered every movie title by alpha sort with a number next to it that corresponded to the VHS tape it was on. Then all I had to do it arrange the tapes in numerical order and use the book to find what I wanted.

I think I still have all the boxes of tapes and will one day 86 them as I downsize my stuff here.

Although I too am on a first name basis with many of my rock idols ....

Keef goes in the R section :D

..... along with his band.... the Stones!

Yeah .... I know .... "warts and all" .... just like live music ... ".... but I like it, like it, yes I do" :)

Just keeding Baz....

My changes to the order included moving Ozzy to O instead of Black Sabbath. And although I like that family order, the discogs order keeps me better organized

More thread drift:

I have one picture disc - Def Leppard's "Hysteria". Brand new, never played, and still in it's shrink wrap.

So yesterday I decided to check out what other's showed up on eBay.

I ended up buying 3 more at what I thought were reasonable prices:

"Living in the USA" by Linda Rondstadt

"Magazine" by Heart

"Dreamboat Annie " by Heart

The first two were BIN's but the last one was sitting at $4.99 (1 bid) with minutes left, so I hung out a bit to snipe at the last few seconds. I've learned the hard way that if there's something you really really really want.....your best chance of getting it on eBay is to snipe it.

So I decided ahead of time I'd place a $20 bid on it with under 10 seconds left. Which I did. Lo and behold there were two more bids that came in, with me being the winning bid final sale :$19.50.

The description was that this album looked to be brand new, never used, and in perfect shape. "Dreamboat Annie" for me is the best album Heart ever made. At least it's my favourite.

So I will add it to my collection.

When that day comes I elect to dump everything I own, the vinyl will probably be the only thing left. Along with a record player, of course. :)
