Black pinstriping tape in the same width as the groove? Push it in with a screen roller?
|
Bite the bullet and mask it off. Take your time.
Put on a podcast or Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Burnish the edges, spray the groove with clear spray paint (flat finish) to seal the tape edge. Use a spray bomb to paint the black. Remove the tape, fix any imperfections, spray the whole thing with a few coats of clear (flat finish) from a spray can. |
Well, 2 things. One the very top of the groove looks crisp. Two, do better cuts. I don't know why using a router that you would have a rough cut like that.
Reallly, you're gonna have a hard time painting a rough groove to a clean edge., masking or not. I think hand painting down in there will not result in a good line. Again. if that were in my shop I'd spray the grooves first and then sneak up on the edge. A good brush and a steady hand will do the trick, but major time consuming. The foam roller might still work if you get the right style of roller. Small and compact, almost hard. Small cells. Someone has that, maybe the art supply in Westminster. |
I hope I'm not going to disappoint you guys. I'd just come back from that store, Zeke, to look at what they had to offer in the brush dept.
WOW! Did I ever get an education there. NEVER would have thought you could spend up to $70 on ONE brush! And it wasn't even a big brush! Walked out with some cheapies, cause that's how I roll. I managed to get one or two panels painted with the black lines. I think once they're touched up a tad and clear coated they'll be just fine hanging on the fence. Remember, this is YARD art. And compared to what's been hanging out there the last couple of years these will look perfect. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682634481.JPG I came up with a 'fill the trench' type of painting method for the black.:p My wife likes it so far, and yes, she's mentioned clear coating them more than once to seal them. |
Looks just fine to me .... but ya really only have to please just one person .... and they won't be posting :)
|
So I'm finally down to the final step of putting Polyurethane on the boards to seal them up.
I think this is going to turn out OK. Not perfect but hey, it's yard art. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684347645.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684347645.JPG |

Be careful. If you put them too close to the curb Baz will swing by and will pick them up! |
All finished and hung up.
