MP3s on my iPad playing through a Bluetooth speaker.
I seldom just sit to listen to music, it's usually background to me so high quality sound isn't important.
I have surround sound on my TV and I do enjoy watching music videos sometimes.

Reproducing a live event (or close) in the living room with an end endless supply of music and genres has been a great journey. Getting things set up and delivering accurate dynamics and a realistic soundstage (yes, you can tell where each musician is, left to right and front to back) has become an enjoyable hobby as well.

Very cool! VPI, Primaluna, Marantz transport and Gustard?

When walking around I listed to Qobuz or Amazon HD on my iPhone to Sony WF1000XM4

Whole house and Garage mostly Qobuz, Amazon or Pandora through Control 4, Eclipse amps to Monitor Audio and Focal built in speakers. Around exercise area, my old Cambridge soundworks have been added to the setup.

Dedicated room is complicated like Supes and Choc.

Theta + Sony ES (modwright moded) transports
Wiim Pro streamer
Theta + Topping + Lexicon DACs
Allnic PreAmp
Infinity Servo Controller (for controlled Watkins woofers)
Threshold 12e power amps for low frequency towers
Manley Snapper power amps for mid/high towers
Infinity IRS Beta main speakers
ZLC line conditioner (massive toroidal)

Movies: Denon AVR, Sony + Oppo sources, Sherbourn power amps, Cambridge, Snell and Aerial speakers, 2 Sunfire signature subs

I have a secondary system with my Aerial 8b speakers

Biking...I listen to my MP3 that I ripped my fav music from CD's that I never use anymore.:)

In the house, car, and garage I listen to Sirius XM. I have the Alexa speakers and powered sub to tell her which songs or stations I wish to listen too. The sound is excellent with the subwoofer. Tons of choices on Sirius XM.

I never use my home theater system for music.

Yes, good eye. Except it’s a Denafrips DAC. There’s a Sutherland phono preamp and a BluSound Node in the cabinet and Focal Aria 936 speakers. Morrow cabling. Recently upgraded output tubes to Russian KT-150’s. Don’t even ask what Russian anything costs these days!

Thought it could be a Pontus II. I went with a Topping DS90SE due to its features for DSD have not implemented DSD sources yet (ideas?).

I like the Arias, very nice!

Russian tubes, I can imagine. My Allnic came with a couple of very old (older than me for sure) 417a Western Electric which I will roll soon.

Running Tungsol EL-34 on the Manleys currently which replaced Gold Lion KT77 as recommended by Ms Manley.

Now, we need to put together a good Pelican audiophile playlist!

edit: what a difference a couple of decades make on a DAC. The Topping cost what the "datalinq" connection on the Theta cost me. The Topping blows the Theta..... (or should I say the Theta "blows"? ;) )

Mostly Pandora

All Yamaha 250w/ch into Poll SDS SRS 1,2

Sometimes 200 w/ch Dennon into vintage JBL L100

Here's two that may take some searching to find, but well worth it.

-The Stimulators - St. James Infirmary. It's a live recording but probably the best rendition I've ever heard. Spotify has it, but not Tidal or Qobuz.

-Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo. This one will test the bass reproduction of your system. In fact, it's because of Bela Fleck that I also added an REL sub to further pressurize the room below 35Hz. ;)

Cosmic Hippo is in my radar. I will look for The Stimulators.

I have a couple of subs but are not connected to my 2 channel. My speakers have 4 12 inch woofers each and move quite a bit of air and are rated to go down to 15Hz!

Couple of my regulars

- Nils Lofgren Keith Don't Go live
- SRV Tin Pan Alley
- Steven Wilson Regret #9 (the alternative take)
- Diana Krall California Dreaming
- Dean Peer Lord Zuthula (your REL will love it)

ha ha ha. Since I added the acoustical treatments I find myself lowering the level of the low frequency drivers. Before i used -2db now -9 db. Bass has become very musical!

We have done similar a few time. I have made a few upgrades since this pic, mostly changing out the audio research preamp for a minidsp SHD. Also got rid of the nasty mustard color walls, not sure what the previous owner was thinking

main speakers are Dynaudio confidence C4, augmented by 18" DIY sub that doesnt really do much 99.9% of the time, but its fun to have the .1% of the time.

Thanks, it kind of is insane! My wife approves!

Rear has diffusers and I'm putting together removable diffusers to place in front of the screen (120" screen where ideally I would have diffusers).

I'm thinking of using 4 diffuser panels (with no frame to keep them lightweight) that I can "hook" to the top of the screen.

What was wrong with the ARC preamp?

Thank you, Choc. This band's entire library is beyond awesome. Never heard of them until today. Thanks again. SmileWavy

Nothing, always loved ARC preamps.

I won't go without DSP these days though. I know its sacrilege to some audio enthusiasts, but just too many advantages for me

It really does wonders for sub integration if done carefully with measurements. It also allows me to use Dirac room correction which works very well in some scenarios. I also have a number of preset calibrations I can switch in an out with a button press. All processing can be turned off easily as well.

. I've done tubes and purest audiophile type set ups in the past but well implemented DSP is a huge upgrade in my experience.

Side note, Anyone interested in a near mint with box ARC LS 15 with hard to find metal audio research remote? Old enough to have cool knobs and toggles, new enough to have full function remote and balanced connections.

ErVikingo 04-18-2023 01:07 PM

Understood. I have read about it but have no idea how to implement it on my system. Been reading and communicating with Theoretica about the BAACH for Mac. I don't own a Mac but it reads interesting.

I had an AR Ref 6 which I had to replace due to weather induced damages ...

I recently added the ALLNIC so I'm not in the market but can share it with my "audiophool" friends to see if there is any interest.

Add "The King James Version" on Sheffield Labs. Recorded direct to master for vinyl in the late 70's, its flat out amazing on vinyl and the digital transfer isn't much less. Harry James late career.

To op, tube amp and pre, Ohm 4's. Garage and pool patio are vintage Japanese electronics feeding late 80's Mission monitors. All streamed lossless thru Apple devices and Airplay. Until windows 10 also over computer from hard drive, but Airfoil no longer works and I'm macless. Save the earbuds for podcasts and NPR. If I want to stream radio, TuneIn and Airplay (for WWOZ and Mountain Stage).
