My friend bought himself another hotdog

He seems pretty happy so far though he’s not sure if he should eat one first or take turns having a bite from each or try to cram them both in his mouth at once…

I would relish another hotdog...

unclebilly 04-26-2023 03:29 AM

It was at Costco. He couldn’t resist. Trouble is, what do you do with the extra pop?

billybek 04-26-2023 04:51 AM

We called the Costco Polish sausage dogs "gut bombs".
100% or more of your daily cholesterol in one shot.
Kind of like the expresso of hot dogs.

They sure are darn good though...

My idea of sin? Start with a four-pack of the extra-large Hebrew Nationals...fire up the Webber, do the dogs till skins just start to split, alongside the sweet-potato fries on an olive-oiled pizza tin, buns toasted perfectly at the last minute, grab the Grey Poupon, wife's homemade relish, finely chopped scallions, homemade coleslaw, four Fiddlehead IPA's - and have at it! Still got some room? Time to break out the B+G's New York Super Fudge Chunk! (just typing this entry is giving me chest pains...honest!)

Buridan's ass.

Sam's sells the Nathans hot dogs. $1.68 for a dog and huge drink. I just drink water, and eat one dog. Then I marvel at how any human (Joey Chestnut) can stuff 76 of them down in 10 minutes. At my peak of big eating as a teenager I might get down five. 76 in 10 minutes is just not normal human possible and not a one time fluke, he has won 10 years in a row!

jamesnmlaw 04-26-2023 06:44 AM

Sam's dog and a drink special is the best cheap lunch in town. But only once every month or two. I ate two once resulting in a carb coma and Mississippi mud-butt.

For me it's more of a Hobsons choice. I suffer terribly from junk food guilt. :( Blame my Mom.

Mystery Meat - everything in it but the squeal.

Bill Douglas 04-26-2023 02:58 PM

Eat the hotdog with the mustard first. Then... take you time with the second one, the one with all the lettuce sticking out the side. So when the missus comes along she says "I'm pleased to see you're being sensible."

WPOZZZ 04-27-2023 12:13 AM

And I'm jealous that Canadians have Polish dogs at Costco. They got rid of that in the US maybe 5 years ago.

Born and bred from Chicago and the Chicago dog is the best. I know every city probably has their version but the one thing in common for me is no ketchup - not ever.

I recall a joke I heard a very long time ago: 2 guys traveling to America for the very first time. They heard about hot dogs and they went out to buy them. One says to the other " what do you think?" The other says, " not bad. What part of the dog did you get?"

KFC911 04-27-2023 03:22 AM

So what's a Chicago dawg .... like ketchup, please tell me it doesn't have mayo ... or a pickle!

A "Carolina Dog" .... mustard, chili, slaw and onions .... mmmm :)

New Jersey Italian Hot Dog
Try to avoid using a hot dog bun; those are too small for the Jersey dog.

Ingredients
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Salt
2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
2 medium green peppers, sliced into strips
1 large yellow or white onion, sliced into strips
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, or a mixture of oregano, basil and rosemary
8 beef hot dogs, preferably with natural casings
4 sandwich buns
Mustard

Method
Fry the potatoes:
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan or skillet or griddle until it shimmers. Put the potatoes in the pan in one layer and fry on medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes without touching them.

Use a metal spatula to scrape the potatoes off the bottom of the skillet, flipping them. Sprinkle salt over the potatoes, and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes without touching them.

Brown the peppers and onions, add back the potatoes:
Remove the potatoes, which should be partially browned, to a bowl and set aside. Increase the heat to high and add the peppers and onions. Arrange evenly in the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes without touching them.

Sprinkle salt over them, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes untouched. There should be some browned and even blackened bits here and there.

Add the Italian seasoning and the potatoes to the pan, stir to combine and cook over medium-high heat until they are soft and nicely browned, about 8 to 10 minutes.

Grill the hot dogs:
Heat a grill or a frying pan to cook your hot dogs; don't boil your dogs for this recipe. Grill or fry until they are done to your liking and set aside.

Assemble:
Liberally smear mustard on both sides of the sandwich roll. Add two hot dogs per roll and top with as much of the potatoes, peppers and onions as will fit. Serve at once.

Tomatoes, cilantro, avocado, jalapenos and/or sriracha

All beef no added nitrates grass fed fancy pants $8.99 per pack franks, grilled

We never ate hot dogs growing up and was mostly grossed out by the thought, but in my adult life with the above recipe, I am a huge fan as are my kids. I feed like y'all have helped me pick dinner for tonight.

I get it, especially when you're from a place that has a strong history. I don't think there's a strong hot dog tradition here in Houston or in Florida, the two places where I've spend the most time. I'm not tied to any one particular style of hot dog. To me they are like a burger, the possibilities of a good one are almost only limited by your imagination.

I'll eat a hotdog with mustard only, ketchup only, mustard and ketchup, chipotle mayo, etc... Then there's chili, onions, relish, cheese, sauteed onions, fried onions, etc....

My opinion is if it's a hotdog with stuff, bring it on!

Is it just me or does that guy look like he's got odd proportions (long torso, short legs, and tiny feet) to the point that I was trying to figure out if someone had photoshopped him.

Here ya go:

A classic Chicago-style hot dog; a boiled or steamed all-beef dog on a poppy-seed bun topped with mustard, lime green relish, chopped onions, tomato wedges, a pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt.

There are off shoots: you can char a dog, substitute Polish sausage (you can char that as well). I like dogs with sauerkraut and spicy mustard, Coney dog and chili dogs.
