Porsche gets closer to self-driving mode.

at least in traffic..

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/porsche-teams-mobileye-advanced-driver-assistance-systems
“Mobileye SuperVision™ system was designed to enhance safety through the synergetic interaction of driver and vehicle, as well as enhance the driving experience itself, by giving drivers greater freedom to choose how they want to engage with the road, and when they want to let the vehicle handle basic driving tasks,” the company wrote in a press release.

Michael Steiner, board member for research and development at Porsche and head of development at Volkswagen Group, told Bloomberg: The technology “can aid the driver in everyday situations, for example by not having to keep their hands on the wheel the entire time in traffic jams.”

Mobileye's system uses 11 cameras and radar-fusion perception, along with AI to help perform driver assistance features.

Not disturbing at all. I’m not a fan of anything that encourages a driver to have less control over the vehicle.

All the new Porsche models have a "eye" that if it glowed red it would look like HAL9000 from 2001 a Space Odyssey. It is just a large black eye in the front of the grill down low for the adaptive cruise control. I wonder what all the sensors needed for full self driving will look like.

5 years ago at the track a brand new Porsche with the center eye in the grill experienced an unexpected rapid deceleration on the straight.
They had a 30mph overtake on a car ahead and the eye sensor nanny slowed the car dramatically to follow the leading slower car.
Would not want to be following when a Porsche nanny brake checks middle of a straight.
