Aja or Can't Buy a Thrill?
Not a poll, just curious.
-or-, Harvest or After the Gold Rush? Let it Bleed or Beggars Banquet? Tommy or Quadrophenia? Revolver or Sgt. Pepper?

Quadrophenia
To me, Aja is a stunning album...

Tommy, the rock opera is a masterpiece of the Who. The writing that went into it.

Aja
Harvest Let it bleed Couldn’t care less, how about neither? Revolver, if I must. I’d rather have Abbey Road. |

Steely Dan: William S. Burroughs and I worked on the bands name so, you know, I'm qualified
![]() I was a bit young for Can't Buy a Thrill but love the album. Aja, otoh, came out at the exact time in my life where I could related...1977 and I was just turning 19/20. Had all their previous album's, but Aja was different, at least to me. "I crawl like a viper, through these suburban streets, make lov to the woman, languid and bitter sweet..." Home at Last is the best song on the album, however: Very important to me.

My son and his girlfriend saw the current line-up in Richmond last year.
Back story. Jack and I always went for drives together, just he and I: Grade school, HS, college and beyond. We spent a lot of time in the Chocs MB 560SL howling at the afternoon sun. I got a song to play, he got a song to play as we drove. I learned a lot and he fell for the Dan. He said the concert in Richmond was great and that Fagan et al sounded terrific. He, amid all the geriatrics like his Dad, was singing along with them. They couldn't believe it. All I got was a lousy T-shirt ![]()

Aja or Can’t Buy A Thrill? Aja for sure. No question. How can you even ask?
Harvest or After the Gold Rush? Oooo super tough. Narrowly goes to Harvest. You get Neil, CSNY, and Linda Ronstadt. Let it Bleed or Beggars Banquet? Also super tough. “Sympathy For The Devil” tips it to Beggars Banquet. Tommy or Quadrophenia? No preference. Neither stand up to Who’s Next, IMHO. Revolver or Sgt. Pepper? No preference. I may be the only person I know who doesn’t really like the Beatles. There, I said it.

Lots of good Steely Dan videos on YouTube. I recommend this series on how they made Aja.

CBaT was a landmark album; it was undefinable, it was dense and it was terrific. Also, when a certain person whom I regarded extremely highly gave me high praise for owning that album, it gave me a hit of dopamine that lasts to this day. This was in the eighth grade.

Probably an age of the listener thing, but I agree.

Can't Buy A Thrill over Aja but Pretzel Logic & Katy Lied far better
Tommy over Quad but Who's Next is far better (Live at Leeds after that) Revolver and Sgt Pepper are both awesome I'd listen to Yoko before I'd listen 90% of Neil Young but Old Man and Needle & the Damage Done are awesome
