How tall are you? Just found out that I’m on the short side.

I never thought of myself as short but I just looked it up and the average male height in the US is 5’9”. I’m that in shoes, otherwise I’m only 5’8”. I feel tall next to my wife as she’s 5’3”. No female in my family is taller than her. I’m of Southeast Asian descent so that’s why I always felt tall around my peeps.

How tall are you and what’s your ethnicity?

pwd72s 05-13-2023 08:22 PM

Other than that I once had blonde hair and now have white hair & blue eyes, don't know my ethnicity. I was adopted. Never did a DNA test, no interest in doing so. In my 20's, I was 6'3"...sorta tall I guess. At 79, last clinic visit, I measured 6'1"..not cold water ;), but age shrinkage I guess.

Think I read somewhere that humans are a bit like dogs when it comes to lifespan...smaller dogs live longer.

Feel better now Shorty? :D

jyl 05-13-2023 09:44 PM

Was 5’ 11”. Probably less now.

wildthing 05-13-2023 10:29 PM

5'7" and South East Asian as well. I am the tallest in my family. I only feel short when around my Caucasian friends. :D

Arizona_928 05-13-2023 11:05 PM

Doxing thread?

Bill Douglas 05-13-2023 11:09 PM

Six feet and a bit. Now that I'm in my 60's I've probably lost "that bit"". So I try to keep my posture good.

oldE 05-14-2023 02:06 AM

Four decades ago I was 6' 3". Definitely an inch below that now. Inseam doesn't change, so I have to tuck my shirt in farther these days. Many generations removed from the British Isles. Probably a bunch more generations removed from Scandinavia.
So far, getting older beats the heck out of the alternative. :D

flatbutt 05-14-2023 03:14 AM

5' 6" first thing in the morning...and it's all attitude. :D

VINMAN 05-14-2023 03:43 AM

I'm a manlet,...5'7"..

.

vonsmog 05-14-2023 04:44 AM

6' at my max but now at 64 years old I think I lost a little, so 5'11"+. Wife is only 5'2", we are both white.

That makes me a piccolo manlet.

6’3” at my Zenith. Gravity is taking me down. Parents immigrated from Germany. Holocaust survivors.

masraum 05-14-2023 05:23 AM

peaked at 6'2". Now a bit less, but still over 6'1".
Dad was 6'2". Mom is 4'11".

GH85Carrera 05-14-2023 05:45 AM

I grew to 5' 11.5" and yea, that 1/2 inch was important to me as a teenager. Now I am just 5' 11" at my last annual.

I did my ancestry on ancestry.com. I have German blood from both my maternal and paternal lines, as well as British and Irish if I go back far enough. I figure that is why I like beer so much! ;)

jhynesrockmtn 05-14-2023 06:01 AM

I'm a bit over 6'1", mostly Norwegian with some British thrown in per 23andMe.

NY65912 05-14-2023 06:16 AM

Was 5'-11.5. Now 5'10" at almost 68 years old, and after spinal and cervical surgeries.

When I had my hip replacement I put it off as long as I could stand the pain.

During the surgery they basically cut your leg off. My ball socket has zero cartilage left, and the doctor said it was just bone rubbing on bone with just blood as a lubricant. He said it had to hurt, and I knew that. Anyway with the slow wearing away of the cartilage that leg had become shorter, but I never noticed and my brain compensated as that side got slowly shorter.

After he rebuilt my joint, he made that side 1/4 inch taller than ideal, so suddenly it was taller than the other side, and my brain just knew I was suddenly taller on my former short side. It took several months to heal and several more months to learn to walk properly with new height on that side.

Overall the dumbest thing I have done in my life was put off the hip replacement. The recovery pain was minimal compared to the former pain of just walking.

In the end, I came out 1/2 inch taller than before the hip replacement, if I apply most of my weight to that side. So pretty much back to my younger height.

LWJ 05-14-2023 06:32 AM

72.5”

What is funny? I always say “six foot.” My son also claims to be “six foot” yet he is clearly shorter than I.

I called him out on it. He confesses to 5’11.5”.

What is funny? I never considered saying I was 6’1”.

Is he inherently dishonest or am I inherently honest? Funny.

Seahawk 05-14-2023 06:34 AM

I peaked at 6'4"...after injuries, hip surgery (left done, right hip this Fall) and being 66, I'm thinking major shrinkage.

6'2 178 pounds this morning, but I'm about to get on my bicycle for a few hours for some climbing and today the weather is going to be at least 90. I'll be interested to see if I'm lighter and shorter this afternoon.

Edit, 3 and a half hours, 2000 calories, nothing left in my legs. minus 2 pounds.. I did stop for a taco, though.

ted 05-14-2023 07:45 AM

6'6" when people ask if I play basketball I ask them if their dad was a jockey or do they play miniature golf?
Met a stunning 6'6" tall girl.
I asked her if she would date a guy 6 foot tall?
She said "Six nothing"?!?
Just being tall does tend to trigger some short dudes with Napoleon complexes/anger issues or poor self-esteem.

As long as both legs are the same length, it is all good

I'm 5'9", but sorry for my weight

jcommin 05-14-2023 09:44 AM

I was 5'11" at 13 yrs of age - I was barely 110 lbs. I got all of my growth by the time I was 16. I'm 6'-2" Not fun being one of the tallest when you are a kid, you just stand out. I was clumsy too - growing too fast, everything else needed to catch up.

I'm 73 yrs old and I'm still over 6 ft tall but aging is cruel and I'm no longer 6' 2". Weight , I don't want to talk about.

I have 2 sons who are of average height so that gene didn't passed on to them.

Racerbvd 05-14-2023 09:46 AM

Have not shrunk yet, but have widened.

....burp :)

Tobra 05-14-2023 10:22 AM

I think a lot of it has to do with genetics, but nutrition definitely plays a role.

When the oldest grandkid was little, he ate like 90% of his meals at our house. Turns out the wife had an AA in nutrition after being a teacher and before the bar manager or nurse gigs. She planned out his menu for the week, cooked sweet potatoes and green beans to puree for baby food, a bit OCD, if'n you ask me. He was big for his age, but he was right at the cusp of being in the next class at school, rather than the one he was in. She figured percentage of protein and fat he should be eating, made me buy whole milk. That kid thought a cookie was a Ritz cracker with peanut butter on it until he was 4. He still does not like cake or sweets, because he did not eat that crap when he was little. She had him thinking a dried prune was a piece of candy. Psy ops for good, rather than evil.

He has always been 99th percentile on height and 50th percentile on weight growing up, which worried his mother about him being too skinny until I gave her the straight of it. Last summer he all the sudden grew 4 or 5 inches and was persuaded to run track, since the boy's volleyball team sort of evaporated on him. Turns out having freaky long legs and weighing 165 pounds is good for running hurdles and high jumping. I think he ought to be doing long jump and triple jump, but the timing on that can be tough. Hurdles and high jump and long jump were at the same time, last meet I went to, which seems a bit messed up. Had like 5 minutes to rest before high jump and did well, considering how gassed he must have been. I talked to him right after and asked if his legs felt heavy. He said he felt like he had a shot put in his sock

Used to be 5'11" but now probably 5'10" because of age. Mixed english and french ancestry.

David 05-14-2023 01:31 PM

I was 6’ 2-1/2” but now at 55 I’m 6’2”. I always claimed to be 6’3” since it was easier to say that when someone else claimed to be 6’3” but had to look up for us to see eye to eye ;)

sc_rufctr 05-14-2023 01:46 PM

I'm short by Australian standards... Five foot seven! My ethnicity is Greek.

Average Aussie man: 5 ft 9 in - 175.6 cm
Average Aussie woman: 5 ft 3+1⁄2 in - 5 ft 3+1⁄2 in

I recently had genealogy DNA tested and I'm 60% Greek - 39% Italian so the best of both worlds ;)
(1% Mutt? :D)

My "American BIL" is 5'6"... I recently said to him we're actually normal and everyone else is freakishly large. :D

Since it's mother's day- My mom said she had an affair with sasquatch.

I don't really believe any of that, but, I am 8 feet 6 inches tall.

Crowbob 05-14-2023 03:11 PM

Depending on what I’m thinking about, I’m often taller lying down than standing up.

Not joking.

A930Rocket 05-14-2023 06:26 PM

I’m 6’ - 4” but at 64, gravity is taking its toll and while I get wider, I’m probably getting shorter.

Ms Rocket is 5’ - 2”. Our little Rocket man is 6’ and our Rocket girl is 5’ - 7”.

What’s the theory on height of your kids? Find the average of your heights and add 6”?

My dad was also 6‘ - 4“.

911boost 05-14-2023 09:14 PM

6'4" , 210 pounds. At 49 I still play hockey a few times a week so that is helping keep me in shape, I try to eat well but fail sometimes.

My daughter is 5'8" and my 17 yo son is right at 6', their mom is 5'7"
