The new Audi Q7 "mild" hybrid my nephew just got has predictive starting based on sensors seeing the cars ahead move. Also the starter is a belt driven unit that acts as an alternator powering a 48volt system. It can provide up to 16 hp to move the car prior to more horsepower being needed, and then regeneratively charges the system when slowing down. It provides the light braking force. This is reported to result in 15% more efficiency. All of this by taking advantage of what was wasted energy in the past.

^That's the way everything should be. A little hybrid goes a long way.

I like the flywheel/motor direct drive type without the belt. +150hp: https://www.elephantracing.com/vonnen/

I am surprised the stop start functions in the first few miles. Ours does not.
