RUMOR: Porsche To Reveal New Model: June 8th
Has anyone else heard the exciting news? Although it hasn't been confirmed, it seems insiders have knowledge a modern 911 ST is due to drop in the near future.
Porsche's original 911ST was designed for one purpose, to win races! So it's hopeful to believe that we can expect the same formula in the modern interpretation. What do you think? Are the rumors true? Read this article from our friends at Rennlinst and see for yourself! Rumor Has it That Porsche Will Reveal a New Model on June 8 ![]() |

Who cares? Only the rich swells will have access to the release. Given recent experience with the GT3, my local dealer will find someone to buy it, put 200 miles on it, sell it back so the dealership can sell it as used with a $125+k bump for “market adjustment”.

Sad truth...Porsche sold it's soul decades ago.

that’s what guys said when the 911 was introduced….some people just can’t accept change and progress. They’ve never been cheap relative to alternative modes of transportation. As for me, I love ‘em all, old and new….

It's irrelevant to me as a quarter of million dollar car is not going to happen.
I guess I'm not much of an enthusiast.

The cheapest 911 is over 100 grand now. Just a lot of money for a car.
The good news is for the really rich folks that can buy a new GT3, after a year of fun, sell it for a profit. Assuming you can get it for close to sticker. I just love my old 38 year old 911 more and more. When I can trade it for even money for a new GT4 specked out to my tastes, I will think about it. ![]()

Another version of a 911 that most everyone will not be able to afford unless you can pay way over sticker or have a "special" relationship with your dealer. Porsche is following Ferrari's business model.

never cheap, true. But they were once obtainable when new to a middle class guy who wanted one badly enough. That time period is long gone.

You can get a regular one at the regular price if you wait. A special edition - not so much.

A 911SC was what, $20k base in ‘78? That’s about $100k in todays dollars….not too far off from today’s base model, give or take. I agree the special models are crazy, but the base 911 doesn’t seem THAT far off from where it was, in relative terms.

Yep, SCs were affordable for the upper middle class but a Mustang was only 4000 dollars compared to 20k for a 911 . My 88 930 was 88,xxx.00. That was no drop in the bucket money same as the GT3 or Turbos of today, nearing 200k.

It seems like back in the day you could actually buy a special model. How hard was it to buy a '73 RS in 1973?

My local dealer has free clinics twice a year. It is a nice event. I get to walk with the technician and we go over the car and repairs are discounted about 10% There is food and an opportunity to look at new and used models. Every new car is north of $100K.
I don't know if I fit the Porsche owner profile in today's market. I talk to Corvette guys and there is a disconnect between those who own older cars vs the those who own new cars.

Theres a guy I know that has a 911, a gt3 and is just due to get a new gt3rs. He's having trouble finding places to park them in his condo's garage. Sure, any one of those I can forgive if he drives it but with three gathering dust in the dark I think he's got a problem. If he cares so much he should park it at a track and use it. Reminds me of ferrari owners that wear the ferrari clothes.
When I see someone driving a special porch I feel like they need to get a life, way more respect for lambo drivers because it takes commitment and they look crazy. If Porsche wants my attention, they need to make a light low-power car that's fun to drive at street speeds. An actual modern 550 or a 904 with skinny tires. Schwing. New st. Pah. Porch you suck. |

Pretty tough because they weren't street legal in the USA...theoretically, track only cars not to be street licensed. Price? $13,000 1973. I called Gary Wright who worked for Vasek Polak back then...he told me that the VIN would pop alarms at every state's DMV. Gawd, has it really been 50 years? Guess so...

Every new car is made to come apart in a million pieces with clips designed to break and cost $10-1,000/ea. Engineers figure out ways to hide the basic components behind mountains of useless routed junk. Transmissions without drain plugs. Starters under intake manifolds. Drop the sub-frame to fix a leaky seal placed right next to the exhaust. Bastages I hates 'em all. On the 2015 F150 there are three velour panels to be removed to change the oil. Despite the tit high seat-height, and lifted suspension a foot too tall, and a center of gravity which wobbles over with an easy push, a jack is still needed to access the underside safety. I can't squeeze under there on a creeper. Two of those panels use 8mm bolts into thin clips designed to rust. So much for a easy work truck sitting in the grass... They placed the PS electronic sensor right underneath the freakin drain bolt which has an integrated seal and costs $6. The only upside is that those OEM parts are reasonable from the dealership and cost less than the Toyota. But then there is the rabbit hole of proprietary software which requires a Cray and perpetual subscription, multiple interlinked subsystem computers for components on the CAN bus, and randomly stupid 'features' which most owners want to immediately turn off. no - longer - care. It'll be a special parts-bin with a nice stickers. I'tll be great and get good reviews on the instagram of the rich and famous and influencers that have it on loan. It'll be offered to the VIPs and 918 Spyder purchasers, it'll sell for $$$$$$$ + dealer $$$$$ and explode some more on the secondary market. 911R style.
Yawn... Porsche has become Ferrari. |
