Had a Porsche road rage incident today. Anyone here?

I got behind a 997 S cab today while leaving a shopping center. The guy missed about 10 chances to make his right turn and, with a bunch of cars stacking up behind me, I tapped my horn. He, of course, gave me the finger and then took off, several times brake checking me and trying to make me hit him. This was low speed stuff on the main road, but the lack of speeding traffic made it easy to keep it slow and just go around.

Eventually, the flow sped up and I was several cars ahead of him once one of the lanes went away and he couldn't pass. I started thinking he may follow me home, so I skipped my turn three miles farther up and went to the next street and turned left. He got hung up with oncoming traffic and I thought I'd lost him, but he showed up on my tail in a residential neighborhood you could only know about if you lived there. He had FL plates. Eventually the road narrowed to a dirt one and I was kind of wondering how nuts this guy was. But I had a pistol with me and was pretty sure the road led to a bigger one and was not a dead end. Once he saw me on the dirt road, he turned off.

While he was brake checking me, I tried to video it with my phone, but only got a still. I got his plate. Probably can't get anywhere with a police report, since no video. But tomorrow I have an appt to have my badly cracked and chipped windshield replaced. I have a new dash cam I was kind of putting off installing, but it's going in tomorrow.

How did your windshield get badly cracked and chipped?

Oh, it's very common in AZ. Our insurance here is pretty high because everyone has to replace their windshield every year or two and it's no deductible and can't count as a claim. Nothing to do with this. Final straw in the windshield was my trying to repair a bad chip a few days ago and it turned into a much worse spider web.

Don't know about AZ, but here in CA the CHP has an anonymous "cheaters" website/hotline, where you can report cars you think are out-of-staters living in CA while not swapping out their license plates/registrations. It's obviously a tax grab by the government, but heck, if some out-of-state d-bag gives me a hard time on the road, I have no problem dropping their license plate info onto the website. Let the tax man go after them.

Wasn't me. My 76 is still on jackstands in my garage. I got the fuel lines in but I allowed myself to be distracted by another project.

He will think twice about brake checking someone.

My respect for Porsches is still too deep. I can't damage another car intentionally, no matter how justified. Can't do it.

They made a lot of 997s. Plus unless it’s a late one it’s got an M96 so you are just fixing that ticking bomb for him.

Doing him a favor really…

Buddy of mine had an old LR 88. Mounted railroad ties at the front and rear in place of the (crusty) bumpers.

Oddly enough he never got brake checked…

ok, back to reality

I ride a motorcycle and recently got back on a bicycle so I don't do any of this. Especially on a bicycle. I don't get into anything with other drivers.

Get a dash cam or a phone mount.
I've seen lots of those.
Maybe even a private server storage service. Especially if the area is full of idiot drivers on a daily basis.
The video captured should be private..encrypted..and yours alone...

I also get pissy when impatient drivers behind try to force me into moving traffic, but this guy was off kilter to the Nth degree. Almost got himself the RL Experience (I'mma gonna trademark that name and you can PM me to buy the rights for a mil btw). That one goes into the Darwin file. Make a popo report and watch them do nothing maybe because they can't. At least it will be on file for law enforcement when that jackhat runs into somebody he shouldn't have.

I've noticed a lot of "California" cars featured in Excellence and Panorama that are sporting Montana plates. I actually know a couple of the owners personally and, yes, they live in California. Guys here in Washington have discovered the same tax/registration dodge - establish an LLC in Montana, and transfer ownership of cars and other assets to that LLC. An entire cottage industry has sprung up in Montana to support this.

I was watching the latest Deadliest Catch and they had the Coast Guard Helicopter heading to a cargo ship with an injured sailor.

The CG pilot was telling the rescue swimmer "The ship is sailing under the Liberian flag but that doesn't mean the patient or crew is Liberian. It's just a "country of convenience". Same goes with car registrations I guess. California is a mofo to register an SC as far as smog goes.

Yeah, CHP now cracking down on the Montana loophole. When you take a memorable car (Lambo/Ferrari/McLaren), run Montana plates, and hit the same car shows every weekend, it's doesn't take Columbo to crack the case.

I found what I think is the AZ MVD site for filing a "cheater" complaint. Who knows if they'll follow up?

Most of the CA trailers and dollies I worked on as a fleet mechanic for a major shipping company sported OR plates.
The tax free state just north.

They had to rotate those every year, same as the shift managers, goaded into potential legal situations.

Several years ago our authorities conducted a registration / home address "sting" operation at a favorite campground wherein there are a couple hundred RV camp sites. They simply checked the campsite registrations against the license plates, then asked for drivers' licenses from those owners whose site registration addresses didn't match the plates on their RV's. They wound up impounding dozens of RV's, collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes and fines and, in some cases, simply confiscating those RV's whose owners couldn't settle up.

That said, vehicle registrations in Washington at the time were calculated as a percentage of the vehicle's value. Even a moderately expensive RV would cost several thousand dollars to license every year. It's such onerous, burdensome tax structures that drive people to do these things. If our illustrious leadership just backed off a bit, they would likely see a net increase in revenue as fewer would be enticed to cheat.
