Walk-in tub / shower?

Bathroom with a cast iron clawfoot tub and a shower curtain hung around it. Very old school stuff. Requires a certain degree of balance and dexterity to step in and out, especially with wet feet and tile floor. Also getting out after a bath requires some upper body strength.

Thinking about changing to something more aging-friendly. An 86 year-old person needs to use this bathroom.

Are there walk-in bathtubs (the kind with a door) that also have a glass shower enclosure? Anyone have something like this?

You can get anything you want in that regard. I'd only offer to not respond to one of the ads for them. Go on your own to a plumbing supply that has a showroom. It's negotiable as well. Huge mark ups in that business. I get 50% off and they still make money.

I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel now.. getting rid of the 50-60's era CI tub and installing a walk in shower...

Me 62, single, cant remember the last time I took a bath..

I'm using a pre-fab shower pan, a composite surround.. and a tempered glass panel with divided lights..no swing door or sliding door.. just walk in and shower..

This was the inspiration... though the floor will be much more subtle, not so noisy..

Composite panels going up

I decided to go with pre-fab and composite surround in the interest of time.. I live in a 115? year old home with one bathroom...

The house we bought in SC has two walk in showers like the one(s) Tim pictured...part of the reason we liked the place so much.

Like Tim, I haven't taken a bath in decades but my wife likes them...we are working a compromise in one of the bathrooms.

Lots of options in arguably the second most important place in a home.

I was talking about a walk in tub. A real walk in shower has no curb. Nothing. I have a 2" curb on my shower. It's a Kohler CI enameled with porcelain. That's pretty close to walk in. But it's not, it's a pan.

Friends of mine built a walk in shower. You walked around a wall and the shower was in there. No curtain or door. Really walk-in.

I wanted a to have a total walk in , it would of had to be made of tile... no pre-fab solutions..At least two floor drains..

I just didn't have the time to do it... Showering at the gym a day or two is ok... for a week its not..

I think I want to rip out the enclosed shower and adjacent garden tub in my master bath and go with a walk-in or mebbe a pan with a 2" curb, etc. I'm assuming a pan is a fixed footprint .... is this something I could DIY?

Yes... I'm totally DIY those pics above were installed by me... though my GF is questioning WTF I don't hire out the heavy lifting, the demo etc..

Maybe I just like going medieval with a sledge hammer on an old tub occasionally..
But that just me..

There are pre-fab "tile ready" shower pans if you have time for mastic to set and grouting....

Build this for an 84 year old so his help can get in to help with enough of room for the two. Wheel chair fits in there too
