Scraping off about 2-3 inches then machine tamping . The driveway was installed in the early 90's so it has a good base .

I just sent a text to the last contractor I received a bid from . Told him we are moving forward and put us on the schedule . He stated they were about 4 weeks out so sometime after the 4th of July is my guess . Supposedly a 2 day job .

I struggle with spending big $$$ for items like a driveway . But it will make our life easier , increase the value of the property and make it so much better for my Porsche's to make the transition from the road to the driveway .

The struggle will soon be forgotten when the pleasure of driving up to your place unencumbered by a muddy, pot-holed, bumpy driveway is enjoyed for the first time.
My brother is reveling in having space to work on numerous projects with all his tools handy, his shops available to him for working on whatever he pleases whenever he pleases.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.

^^^ I have no doubt we will be happy with the results .

Just received confirmation the job will start June 26th . Supposedly will take two days . Looking forward to getting this done . Hopefully the weather will cooperate .

Thanks for the update, Rick. Would love to see progress pics incl. "before-after", if possible.

GOOD LUCK! SmileWavy

It's been raining a lot here in north Georgia . I was worried the concrete contractor would be behind schedule . But I received a text yesterday that they will start the job this Monday morning .

Looks like the weather will cooperate so that's good . I will snap some pics of before and after .

^ + during!

We want to critique their work in progress! :)

Moved my car trailer and truck camper today to make way for the crew tomorrow . Here are a few before pics . The first pic is where my truck camper resides . I am having them pour the pad 4 ' past the front posts as I want to extend the enclosure . The rest are just various shots of the driveway and my man cave garage and the parking garage .

That's going to look really nice once there are some well defined edges to the grass.
Do they have a way to make nice, smooth curves for the concrete?

rfuerst911sc 06-25-2023 09:46 AM

^^^ I believe they have flexible metal forms for the curves . I will find out soon enough :D

Zeke 06-25-2023 10:37 AM

It looks rough as is but I kinda like it. We'll see how sterile the concrete looks.

rfuerst911sc 06-25-2023 11:03 AM

I don't need my driveway to have patina 😋. I want it smooth and easy to drive on . My Boxster with GT3 lower lip spoiler is a challenge to get in and out the driveway where it transitions to the road .

Because of black bears our large rolling garbage can stays in the parking garage until the morning of pick up . Another pain to traverse the rough driveway. And as we get older will not get easier.

A sterile flat and smooth driveway is perfectly fine . And it adds value to the property .

Dang Rick...I love your old drive.....you know you're gonna lose some personality there don't ya?

I am perfectly willing to give up all the personality for function . Current driveway doesn't work for us it's that simple . It's all good 👍

Zeke 06-25-2023 01:17 PM

I think your point is valid especially since some difficulties will now be much easier.

I wasn't suggesting not doing anything, I just didn't say other than that much new concrete was going to look a LOT different and not so organic. Concrete can be made to look good with any added features including landscaping as Baz would know.

If you're good with the outcome, that's all that matters.

Scott Douglas 06-25-2023 02:39 PM

With some generous radii corners, and a nice 'S' coming up from the road I think this will look great, especially once the grass gets filled in along the driveway.

rfuerst911sc 06-26-2023 10:12 AM

Interesting 24 hours . Received a text from concrete dude late yesterday that there is a scheduling snafu with the concrete supplier . So job postponed until 7/5 .

Then yesterday afternoon around 5:00 we got the storm from hell ! We either got a tornado or micro burst because trees are down everywhere and we lost power . It just came on 15 minutes ago .

Torrential rain has really washed out my driveway , it's a frigging mess 😳 . I can't wait until this driveway pour is complete .

Scott Douglas 06-26-2023 10:15 AM

At least it didn't rain on fresh concrete!

rfuerst911sc 07-06-2023 12:12 PM

Had a weather delay yesterday so the crew showed up today . Everything has been dug/leveled/smoothed with all concrete forms in place . Unfortunately the first concrete truck isn't scheduled until noon tomorrow.

The concrete companies are super busy and with all the rain we have had has made the problem worse . These guys will be busting hump tomorrow to get 7 full truck loads speed and finished . It's a young man's game . For this project I have no problem with sitting back and writing the check 😁
