July 9, 9:35 AM

No need to read further, I just need to tell the universe.
I'm having a rough morning.
Two years ago, on Saturday, July 9, I said goodbye to my Maddie, I handed her lifeless body to the veterinarian and kissed her goodbye for the last time. It was so hard to let her go. I noticed it was 9:35. I still have a hard time with Saturday mornings, and July 9th.

We have Lacey now. Lacey is a sweetheart and now owns part of my heart, but every time I look at her I think of Maddie. Vicki says Maddie sent Lacey down to us so we wouldn't be lonely or sad. I miss Maddie anyway.

Gratuitous pictures

Madison, in better days.

Lacey with her favorite toy, Bunny.

It is really hard to lose a perfect dog. My condolences. I still miss my doberman that died oveer 30 years ago. She was so smart.

I understand too .... Feb 11, 2008. My vet buddy went back to his office and then came by my house around 8 pm. We both knew it was time ... she wagged her tail
and I held her in my arms .... and cried.

I don't know the day, but it was also July 2022. Neither of us are thinking of or planning to have another pup.

My wife and I are what's known as, "failed fosters". Even before we were volunteers at an animal rescue shelter, we took in stray dogs and cats. I confess I am not a "horse person" or a "dog person ", but I also have to admit mourning the loss of every single one of the six equine, ten canine and 15 feline lives who have enriched our lives over the past 47 years. There is a Border Collie stretched out on the floor beside the couch and an old cat pressed up against my arm as I type this and I know I will be miserable when they leave us. That is, unfortunately, part of the deal.
Love 'em while you got 'em.

Best
Les

We have had dogs and cats for decades. If most humans were half as honest and loyal, the world would be a far better place. We have photos on our walls of nearly all our animals past and present. When I think about a particular time or pet, I can look at their picture and memories come back like it was yesterday. They are a tapestry, none replace another.

This is a rough topic for me.

October 22, 2018.

It doesn't help that Subaru has declared October 22 National Make a Dog's Day day.

Every October, Subaru runs their commercials, and I think of Ginger. She's been gone longer than she was alive, but I still miss her. She had a birth defect that caused her kidneys to not develop. The vet found this at 6 months when we were going to spay her. The vet gave her 6 months. Through lots of love and very expensive dog food, she lived another 3 years. This photo is from one of her last days with us.

When she passed, the wife wanted to get another dog right away. I wasn't ready, and I wanted to wait. She won, and Dec 7 2018 this one came home. She was a rescue, abandoned by a breeder at 6 weeks old. Supposedly she wasn't the right color.

Would you toss this and two siblings by the side of the road?

Very well said indeed. No pets here now...I hate it! Luckily, we get visits from "Rascal", a neighbor's cat....he's a sweetheart. This, with neighbor's permission...he'll stop off every once in a while, knowing we're a source for food & water...and some lap time.

Sounds like you guy and Ginger were the perfect match.
