I don’t like either one of these ne'er-do-well’s:

I think I may be the butt of this joke

That Farmall must be around early '50s.
I have spent a few hours on one just like that.(Not as shiny though.)

John, the owner, said 1948. He used it when he had a christmas tree farm...now it is shiny!

In '72, my BIL's family received a gas cap for their '54 Farmall. Apparently there had been a recall. I loved the tilt feature for the hitch. With the bayonet coupling, it made hooking up implements a breeze.

It's hard to tell the model year once they've been repainted and decaled. The "Culti-Vision" decal would have not been used after 1946. In 1947 IH introduced the Super A, which had the hydraulic system seen on this tractor. It would have had a "Super A" decal instead of the one on the tractor. If John says it's a '48 I believe him. It's a '48 with the wrong decal on the hood.

Perfect!

I shall commence wearing him out ASAP!

He did mention "culti-vision": As you know, the engine is off to the left so the operator can see down the row. Not the best pic from yesterday...you can see the engine on the left:

Yep. Some idiot was smoking a cigarette when he went to fill the tank on his Farmall M. The tank was pressurized due to a clogged vent. You can imagine the result. IH designed a cap with a better vent and sent one to all known owners.

BUT - this thread is about the famous Mr. Curtis! I love that portrait of him in the truck.

So, a bit of sand in the gears.

Mr. Curtis has cancer. His daughter called me last week and let me know.

He and I chatted and I brought him some "Word Finder" book with the big print and met he and Wendy, his daughter, at the hospital.

His insurance is average to good, and I helped Wendy find the right place for her Father as close as possible.

I'll head to La Plata, where he will get follow-on care, tomorrow.

I am not good at this type of stuff, so I'll ask: He is in his 80's and what, without me asking him, do you folks think is a reasonable thing to bring, besides my lovely visage, that would make him happy?

Thanks in advance.

The Mr.:

Bring yourself, a card, and some flowers. What you write inside the card is also important. Has to include the word "love".

Prayers to all involved.......

Good advice by Baz...I may add a little something. Only TV in hospital rooms. A small radio with ear pieces is always welcome. God bless Mr. Curtis, and Paul...for being a friend.

So Sorry to hear this Paul.

It is obvious that you being there for him will mean the world to him.

Something tells me you will know what to bring . . . maybe some of the vegetables he has grown?

Prayers and Love going your way.

I'm sorry to hear he is sick. Things like the word finder book might help him keep busy when no one is around. The best gift you could give him is your presence on a regular basis. You don't have to stay long, but be there.

Print out a few pictures of him and the farm implements. Get them framed at CVS so he can just stand them up.
You're a good man, Charlie Brown

Damn. As said above, visit as often as you can. When you get to the point where he looks at your ugly mug and says,"You know you don't get to inherit!", that might be sufficient.
Tell him there's a whole bunch of guys who are thinking about him and who would like to visit, but all we have is you as proxy.
My next door neighbor is being treated for cancer. He might have got tired of my visits, but he never let on. There's not much else you can do.

Is he a drinker? If so, I would smuggle him in a few of the airline sized bottles of his favorite liquor.
