Thanks, Paul. This is a great, great update.

How 'bout some soundtrack, a little skanky guitar and a blues beat for Mr Curtis....

You know if Mr. Curtis set up a Go Fund Me Page for something he wanted you know the folks on PP would come through for him.

Oh, not a chance...Mr. Curtis is an old school black man who has earned his way and done well.

I have not and would not offer any assistance other than we like to be around each other. Tobra hit it hard. Patrick knows John, the owner of the machines in the pictures, and he gets it as well.

So, today I picked him up so he could get Kale and other greens out of the garden he and my wife have for him.

He and my wife went out for "a few minutes" to the garden and then returned in 45 minutes with today's green mile of leafy stuff. Grins all around. These are not well people, folks.

I then took him to the local health food place and he spent $33.00 on two loafs of bread he can eat and unsalted peanut butter so he stays well. I kept the receipt.

I am headed back to the local HFS tomorrow to ask them if they understand or, importantly, have options I can explore for him on the QT.

I will not tell Mr. Curtis. He is, and I mean this, as proud of his life and family as I am of mine. That is why this works.

Tobra, thank you.

RN, you are such a good Dude I hesitated to post the above but I figured you would understand.

During the parade, John drove the old Farmall and Mr. Curtis rode with another friend of John's.

From today's outing with C: "Good man, quiet. Nice to meet new people".

I am looking for options on line now for his bread and PB.

I can guarantee you, any of us would buy him lunch just to hear his thoughts/wisdom.

Tobra was right, even middle aged adults need a father figure from time to time.

Update.

I met Mr. Curtis years ago when he asked me if he could "bunny" hunt the farm, Beagles and all. He had a great rep so he did.

Now, years later, he asked about deer hunting here. I don't hunt anything other than birds and Groundhogs but another Cali Exile from down the beach does and he manages all the stands and who does what here. It just works.

If you don't know, don't pretend.

Dean and Mr. Curtis are very kindred souls. Once Dean was comfortable with Mr. C's acumen with a shotgun, he set up four chairs so he could hunt deer comfortably.

The chairs swivel and are very comfortable.

Chair with a view.

He and Dean have been here a bunch since the season opened. They both have exceptional discipline in terms of knowing what to shoot, when...most do not.

Other than sightings and stories, the two hunters seem happy to watch nature.

Then trouble:

It is: A bit hot but, for late June in Maryland, a dry heat...I know.

The guy on the tractor and Mr Curtis are now friends...we augment Mr. C's family/relatives in getting him out and about.

He took one look at the chicken coop and found three things I had missed. He is no longer welcomed here

Ok, one more time: He and Tractor Boy will fix the coop next Saturday.

I'll admit my heart sank when I saw you revived this thread, Paul. I'm glad it was for another Mr. Curtis update. I have a vaguely parallel Mr. Curtis story of my own, but he passed away one year ago without our knowledge until shortly after the fact and services, such that they were. His extended family knew "of me" from him, but not who I was or how to reach me. It seems terribly cliche, but enjoy the time you have with him b/c you don't know when the last time will be.

We are only what we DO. Not what we think. You've done well here, Paul. Thank you for making the world a little less ****ty.

He's back:

Truck show today, my friend John (owner of the Stovebolt website) picked Mr. Curtis up this morning. They have become pals:

BTW, John is a prior Marine and has already taught Mr. Curtis all the "Squid" jokes a man can stand...I'll be headed over in a bit to get a ration from both of them
