PGA Tour merges with LIV

Looks like the entire PGA was just bought by Saudi Arabia. Not a fan of LIV, wondering if I can overlook this enough to watch a couple majors each year. May have just killed it for me as a fan.

They said on the radio today that the Saudis own the PGA now. And the European tour. The Saudis are smart. They see the end of the oil economy on the horizon - distant though it may be - and need to diversify. Did anyone think they'd just go back to being poor nomadic camel jockies and look back and say, "That was fun."? No. Money talks, and their letting their's speak loudly.

Big news around here as the PGA headquarters is here in Ponta Vedra Beach and a bunch of pros live here. Heard on the radio that PGA is actually a not-for-profit corporation.

Yep, Jay Monahan sold the boys out. Been golfing recreationally for 45 years, use to be a sport of integrity, morals, and honesty. Now it's just about money and nothing else. Will continue to play but will no longer be watching or attending events.

Never understood anything that involved money, expensive equipment, or people that are good at it that involved any kind of ball or similar object.

Apparently, Jamal Khashoggi's murder doesn't mean anything.
Money wins again.
F#@k the PGA.

Collectively, PGA Tour players turned down something like $2B in contracts by staying loyal to the PGA.

The commissioner invoked 9/11 in his comments last year when he said he would refuse to associate with LIV Golf. I guess they just hadn’t offered enough yet.

Imagine how you'd feel if you turned down 100 million out of principle and then this happens.

This is the crux of it and proves just how easy it is to buy people in charge.

I'm new to the game but have fallen fairly hard for it. Actually enjoy watching PGA tourneys. Caught a few min of a LIV event and it was comically bad. PGA had the better product by a country mile but apparently lacked the integrity.

Sad, IMO, but eventually $$ always wins over morality, it’s the American way. And the saudi wealth fund has a LOT of $$. Only a matter of time before they buy their way into NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL…it’s coming. The NBA changed their rules recently to specifically allow sovereign wealth funds to buy teams - they know the money train is coming.

There was a great announcer of Premier League matches on NBC(SN) based in the UK. As the sport gained popularity in recent years in the US, he became even more popular.

Then hey presto, he jumped ship to announce for LIV golf. It will be interesting where this merger places him and others that aren't swinging clubs on the golf course. All the other networks are chock full of their golf expert pundits/announcers.

Just shows that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. It's just different grass.

Maybe it will go the way of Bud Lite. I mean how hard would it be to get off the couch and not watch the most boring TV broadcast ever shown? A golf game? If you like it, get a tee time.

My parents were golfers, belonged to a CC and watched what was on TV. I was WTF? I rode motocross if even in the front yard.

They took me to the CC, got me lessons and I had a great swing. Played a little with other teens and they all cheated. That all spanned about a year and I was off with older boys that could drive to race while the parents goofed at the CC. I didn't grow up with my parents or to be my parents.

They had such a good life they divorced when I was 16. Been on my own since and never owned a golf club, basketball or, most of all, a soccer ball. I did play fast pitch softball for a store sponsored team because they always had 4-5 cases of beer. When they moved to B league I quit. Too much.

Not enough beer. Hired pitcher. No longer a game.

I once went to a golf practice place that used to be close by, just to try hitting a bucket of balls with some guys.
I found it so frustrating to hit a ball because the concentration needed to do it just wasn't my idea of relaxing.
So, I admit I can enjoy watching some of the guys that do it well play.
Now, I'm not so sure I'll be able to do that any more.
I wonder what Rory Mc feels about the merger.

Yes they play 54 hole tournaments. 54 is also the score you would shoot if you birdie every hole on a par 72 course.
